billvon 3,120 #1 March 28, 2003 If you see a really great quote, like Oliver North calling Osama Bin Laden the greatest threat to the world's security in 1985, or Colin Powell saying something really cool, I would suggest you check here before posting. Most of those quotes are made up by people who just _wish_ those famous people had said them.

PhreeZone 20 #5 March 29, 2003 I've sent so many replys with direct links to the needed snopes page that I eventually quit getting them from the one person littering my mailbox. I was mean enough to hit reply to all and made sure every one else that he sent it to knew that he was an idiot for really thinking that those were pictures of the space shuttle blowing up (stills from Armegadon) or that Microsoft was going to mail out checks. My thinking is make them look stupid in front of enough people and they will think twice before hitting forward again.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

AggieDave 6 #11 March 31, 2003 QuoteI think it pisses them off. Fuck 'em. No more then how pissed off they'd get when I'd go into a hard rant about forwards ( I hate them). I've been on the internet for over 10 years and was BBSing before then. Probably about 90% of the crap that gets forwarded to me, I've seen ATLEAST a dozen times. --"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." nacmacfeegle 0 #17 April 3, 2003 "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject." Timely? Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realize that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Pertinant? One day President Roosevelt told me that he was asking publicly for suggestions about what the war should be called. I said at once 'The Unnecessary War' Poignant? It is a good thing for an uneducated man to read books of quotations. Apt? All the above from good old Winston.-------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Because they give sources and links to those sources, as well as statements from individuals concerned if possible/applicable. Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money. Most of those quotes are made up by people who just _wish_ those famous people had said them. I don't believe anything anyone has to say or write anymore unless I see it with my own eyes. If the story, quote, or whatever make me laugh, then I laugh, if its sad and make me cry then I cry. At this point its all come down to the people here spending too much time trying to make the next person look stupid or inferior. I realize there are alot of ego's in this news forum that need stroking and maybe in some way informing people they are wrong or making them feel stupid or what not, does it for them. It seems more appropriate for that "other" skydiving internet newsgroup.
