Jiggs 0 #1 September 19, 2005 Hi all, I recently bought a brand new Neptune that I am using as an altimeter that has been causing some problems. Basically as soon as I get out of the aircraft the display resets to display the version number and the the "press any key" screen - Needless to say it is completely pointless! It does not even log any of the jumps. it worked for about 20 jumps with no problems and now this! I have gone through all the menu settings and it still does the same problem - Has anyone encountered this problem? Anybody know of a solution? Who should I contact? (I got this from the Perris gear store but I live in Australia)"Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." AggieDave 6 #3 September 19, 2005 Firstly, get with your field rep and make sure that you have the current firmware. Secondly, change your battery, many many many problems can be solved with a new battery (even if the batt you think you have is new, it may be crapped out). Worst case, e-mail Lara at Alti-2.com and talk to her about it. Alti-2 has GREAT customer service and Lara flat out takes care of her customers, so I'm more then sure she'll help you figure out your problem and make things right.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." Jiggs 0 #4 September 19, 2005 Why would low battery be a problem if the unit will turn on, sound off alarms etc?"Don't blame malice for what stupidity can explain." If your pocket calculator started having problems every time you pressed the "+" key, would you send it straight back to the manufacturer, or would you try putting fresh batteries in it first?Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. Note that if you have a computer with an infra-red port, you can download and update the firmware yourself. http://www.alti-2.com/Neptune_Owners_Pages/neptune_updater.htm I've done this with a few different Neptunes already, and I won't recommend it for people that are computer illiterate. It's not exactly "one-click" software If you like Linux, you'll love this stuff - there are quite a few steps. BTW - if anyone in the Denver area has a Neptune and wants an update, send me a PM - I've got a laptop with IR that I can bring to the DZ to help you do it. Once you do it a few times, it's not that bad.Trapped on the surface of a sphere. XKCD
kelpdiver 2 #8 September 19, 2005 QuoteWhy would low battery be a problem if the unit will turn on, sound off alarms etc? the voltage used likely goes up when you take off and it starts sampling pressure on a constant basis. That could take you from 'looks fine but is really marginal' to not working at all like it should. Shown up on a lot of lithium powered devices in other sports too. Switch the battery, and verify the firmware release as current. If that fails, time to talk with alti-2 people.
padraigbrowne 0 #9 September 21, 2005 I had a case of this recently , problem was battery contacts ! If the + contact (the top one )is not protruding enough into battery compartment you need to prise it out a little with a very small screwdriver ,careful though ,dont want to snap it off If you are not comfortable with this contact your local field support guy http://www.alti-2.com/FieldSupportLocatorPages/_Australia.htm
