grannyinthesky 0 #3 March 26, 2009 Having been on hiring committees where I work, we didn't give much weight, if any, to degrees from University of Phoenix."safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I was in a transition briefing today from someone with the Department of Labor, research U. of Phoenix carefully, especially accreditation if you try to transfer any credits to another school. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! BillyVance 34 #6 March 26, 2009 They bought the naming rights to the domed football stadium that now hosts the Fiesta Bowl and most recently the Super Bowl, but of course, that doesn't mean they provide a good education."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban

airdvr 210 #8 March 26, 2009 I'm getting the same impression. Are there any online degrees that are decent? Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
PhreeZone 20 #9 March 26, 2009 Only ones I've seen taken seriously are the ones that are directly tied to a classroom environment also. Ohio State offers a few such programs as do most the major universities. It really depends on what you are wanting to get the degree in. MBA is one thing but if you are wanting a PoliSci or a Computer Eng degree then there are a lot of schools to stay away from.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
jumpwally 0 #10 March 26, 2009 May be true now, but the future says otherwise. The high cost of maintaining buildings and people will cause a shift in how education is looked at ,especially with degree's that do not use much lab time. Video and virtual classes will be on the rise.smile, be nice, enjoy life FB # - 1083

Yeah I wondered that, too, so I did a Google search: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=university+of+phoenix+accreditation&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=university+of+phoenix+acc&fp=9-V0nykT3ug
ryoder 1,590 #12 March 27, 2009 I watched an investigative reports about them a few years ago. The summary was that to the surprise of the reporter and some of the educational experts who assisted him, after digging into the data, they gave it high marks."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. MikeMcLean 0 #13 March 27, 2009 Yep, my wife and I both graduated (bachelors degrees) from UOP recently. I have no complaints, other than the fact that at UOP you do pay a premium for the convenience of online courses. In our case that was mitigated by employer tuition reimbursement programs so it wasn't too bad. Feel free to ask my questions if you have them....It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention
airdvr 210 #14 March 27, 2009 Thanks. Any problems finding a job in your field? Was your degree from UoP a plus, minus, or non-factor?Please don't dent the planet. Destinations by Roxanne
MikeMcLean 0 #15 March 27, 2009 It's a fully accredited University that meets the same standards as any other college. The US military supports UOP education for service men and women, both while serving overseas and while at home. A significant number of large companies support education via UOP with their tuition reimbursement programs, including the largest educational publishing company in the US (and I believe all of google, apple, and microsoft). Your hiring committees seem to be a bit biased and short sighted compared to the rest of the world. It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

MikeMcLean 0 #17 March 27, 2009 I'm in IT and my degree was in IT. I went primarily to have the bachelor degree requirement to go for an MBA in the future. I had begun the application process prior to us finding out we were being relocated to FL (which caused me to put it on hold, for the moment) and had no trouble having my degree accepted by NYU for their online master's program. My wife, similarly, was in finance and graduated with a finance degree. Her (at the time) nearly completed with a finance degree status was part of the reason her company offered us a company paid relocation instead of a severance. It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention
