shropshire 0 #1 April 8, 2009 It's been happening for a while... It used to work all around the house but the range is reducing now I need to have my Lappy within a Metre of the Netgear unit. That's jolly inconvenient. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a new one..... sucks to be me (.)Y(.) Gawain 0 #5 April 8, 2009 There are half a dozen other wireless routers within range of my apartment where I live. For a while, I was dropping connectivity, and decided to change the channel in the router settings. That cleared it right up. Other than that, my Netgear has been bulletproof. Maybe it's your laptop? So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Remster 30 #6 April 8, 2009 802.11 channelization is a bit of a bitch. I'm not sure if you can see what the other networks around your house are on, but each channel overlaps 1 channel up and down (well, more than that, but close enough here). So, say your neighbor is using channel 9, try to stay away from 8, 9, and 10.Remster

No, I bet the router is dying. I had a similar problem with my old unit. I would lose signal while I was online and I would have to go unplug it and plug it back in to get the signal back again. So, say your neighbor is using channel 9, try to stay away from 8, 9, and 10. Or to put it bluntly: the 2.4GHz(802.11b/g) channels are a clusterfuck. Only 1, 6 and 11 are clear of each other. Apparently the standards body loved practical jokes. My solution was to turn off the 2.4GHz transmitter, and use only the 5GHz (802.11a) band. As well as having non-overlapping channels, I have only one neighbor using a channel in that band."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. shropshire 0 #9 April 8, 2009 Cheers All - I just borrowed a WiFi router from a mate - and all is well in my little virtual world again - so it looks like a new router is required. Thanks for the assistance - much appreciated (.)Y(.) Chivalry is not dead; it only sleeps for want of work to do. - Jerome K Jerome
mdrejhon 8 #10 April 8, 2009 Routers are a bitch. I hope Skydive Perris has fixed their connectivity problems - because I had lots of WiFi connectivity problems during my last visit during Perris P3. The IHOP router was working perfectly, though.
