poolmarty 0 #3 May 3, 2009 I spent all my summers growing up in Wendell and I never seen a tornato warning there. Of course there was only one TV channel back then :)
JENNR8R 0 #4 May 3, 2009 What?... You're letting a little 'ol dust devil stop you? What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday.
grannyinthesky 0 #5 May 3, 2009 Well, once the tornado warning expired, they issued a thunderstorm warning to take it's place. A little dust devil, maybe........ but all that electricity running around looking for womeone to tickle.... no thanks. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! BillyVance 35 #6 May 4, 2009 Looks like you got off easy. I was working outside in my back yard filling in holes with dirt to help make mowing a smoother ride and I looked up in time to see this ugly motherfucking green-tinted wall cloud coming in fast! I didn't have my hearing aid on because shoveling dirt makes me sweat like a pig. Otherwise I would have had 5 to 10 minutes to take shelter instead of seconds! I ran in just as the wind picked up and the rain came down hard. We (wife, me and 3 year old) all got in the hall bathroom and sat in the tub. After a few minutes, I went out to check the news reports. Here in Alabama, every time we have severe weather producing tornadoes or have the potential for them, all the local news channels go to their emergency weather broadcast rooms. That was when I caught the blurb that there was a tornado on the ground in Pell City and Riverside (my town). We still had power and never lost it. But I followed that storm's track on TV all the way to Piedmont, which is on a direct line from my home to Cedartown, GA as the crow flies. A couple friends of mine in Jacksonville saw the same tornado on the ground when they fled their mobile home in the car. They are okay though. I took a ride around after dinner to see if there was any damage around, and I went looking in the wrong places, nothing. Apparently the tornado was on the ground for 8 miles with a half-mile wide track of damage that ended just outside Pell City, on the opposite end from where I live. They're calling it an F1 for now. I'm going out there tomorrow with the camera after dropping my girl off at daycare and take any pictures if possible. BillyVance 35 #7 May 4, 2009 Not only that, but there appears to be far more damage from the long bowed line of thunderstorms that blew through the state south of me, between Pell City and Clanton, AL. The news were reporting thousands of trees down, deer and cattle flying in the air, etc... and a possible gravity wave. Sylacauga was supposedly hit hard. I guess I'll find out more tomorrow."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
