skittles_of_SDC 0 #28 May 4, 2009 I think you should at least wait until after you get your A. Although thats partially because after I got my first tattoo just to have a tattoo (even though I sill like it) I decided that the rest of them were going to mean something to me. I have almost 200 jumps now and plan to get one when I have the money. If I had the money I would have gotten one right away. The way I look at it even if I were to quit at the end of this year for some reason, skydiving was such a HUGE part of my life last year that the tattoo would always be important to me. steveorino 7 #29 May 4, 2009 I agree with Bill "Whenever you want. It's your skin. If it's important to you, and you're willing to live with the (potential) embarrassment of some people considering you a poser, then go for it. " I remember a guy in Airborne school (May 1977) who had a BIG band-aid on his shoulder. One of the black hats peeked underneath and discovered jump wings that he got tattooed on his arm that weekend. Boy did they have some "fun" with that guy! steveOrino

tigra 0 #31 May 4, 2009 Quote Thanks a lot for the replies. A guy got a tattoo that was mostly about something else with a closing pin slipped into the tattoo. He just got his A license and has 30 jumps. Another guy with 250 jumps and a B license gave him a hard time about it. He doesn't need me to fight his battles for him, I just wanted to know other people's opinions. That's HILARIOUS! 250 jumps and a "B" and he's the self appointed skydiving tattoo police? I realize when you've got 30 jumps, 250 seems like an awful lot. The thing is, when most of us hit that 250, we realized it wasn't that many after all and we still had a whole lot to learn. Sounds like Mr. Tat Police hasn't quite figured that out yet.
squirrel 0 #32 May 5, 2009 QuoteWhen ever I consider a tattoo I have to ask myself "What will it look like when I'm 90 (if I live that long)?" I still don't have any tattoos... On that point, maybe I should get one, the wrinkled old green skin would at to my grumpy old man look, and keep those damn kids off my front lawn, when I'm 90. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? skybytch 273 #33 May 5, 2009 Quote It's all up to you but most of your options are a lot like a freshman buying their class ring. I would say that people should get tats of something after it has become an integral or meaningful part of their life. You can't make a rule about when that is but mine would be between 5 and 10 years in the sport. Note: I don't have any tats. I feel much the same. I have no tats, yet. I'll finally be getting one done in February. It'll be skydiving related, as it will be done in celebration of the 20th anniversary of my first jump. For me, twenty years is nearly half my life. I think that's enough time for jumping to have become an integral and meaningful part of my life, even if I never make another jump. Thus it's the right time for me to have something skydiving related permanently placed on my body. I was going to get it at about 10 years in sport though, so I don't think you have to be an old fart like me to get one. But my personal opinion is it's silly to get one until you've been in the sport for at least a few years.
Nightingale 0 #34 May 5, 2009 There's something about making a skydive, even one tandem, that has an impact on your life. From the moment you leave the plane, even if you never do it again, you're not quite the same person you were before. You can look up at the sky and know what it's like to be up there without the benefit of an airplane around you, and there's something remarkable about that. If you want to commemorate that moment with a tattoo to help keep it with you always, so be it. If you've never been able to jump, but looked up at the sky and dreamed about it, and want a tattoo of that desire, go for it. Skydiving changed my life, and if you want a tattoo of something I love, whatever your reasons for it, I'm not going to be the one to call you a poser.
