Pegandmeg 0 #1 May 3, 2009 I hope those 7 options are enough. I left off "There should be no skydiving tattoos" because I thought that would be silly. Hey, the whole question might seems silly to you, but there are people out there who care. I'm posting this poll to prove a point to someone.
JohanW 0 #2 May 3, 2009 How about Static Line instead of AFF? Where's the option for 'after their first jump - but tandems don't count?' I'd vote for that one, if I gave a sh!t. It's their body.Johan. I am. I think.
DJL 235 #3 May 3, 2009 Put it this way. There are A LOT of people who came and went after 300 jumps or 4 years. It's all up to you but most of your options are a lot like a freshman buying their class ring. I would say that people should get tats of something after it has become an integral or meaningful part of their life. You can't make a rule about when that is but mine would be between 5 and 10 years in the sport. Note: I don't have any tats. I know a few people who got skydiving tats and lost interest before 200 jumps. Edit: If you REALLY want to rock then get THIS tattoo."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher
airtwardo 7 #4 May 3, 2009 I know a few people who got skydiving tats and lost interest before 200 jumps. Ran into a guy at the airport bar in Newark a couple weeks ago, HUGE skydiving tat on his upper arm...turns out the tat was 10 years old and he had a total of 22 jumps, none in the last 9 years. He seemed a bit embarrassed talking about it, at least to someone with a few more jumps. That being said, what ever someone wants to ink up on their body.... then go for it! No tats on my carcass either. ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~

Pegandmeg 0 #7 May 3, 2009 QuoteWho would suggest to be the tattoo police? A VERY good question. Though more people have voted for option 1 at this time, more than half the people voting have made themselves tattoo police by voting for another option. I'm of the opinion that anyone can get a skydiving tattoo. There are people with tattoos of animals they've never seen in real life. People with Japanese symbols they couldn't read before they were tattooed on their bodies. Some of those people even ended up getting symbols they found out didn't mean what they thought they meant. People who weren't alive to see Elvis with his portrait. Whatever they want, they should be allowed to have and I find it odd that a person would be upset if someone with less jumps had at one time honored their sport with a tattoo. That guy that was embarrassed to have the tattoo with only 22 jumps shouldn't be embarrassed. At one time, it was important enough to him to get a tattoo and he's still a 1 percenter. My dad has a navy tattoo and he was in the navy for only 3 years, and it's a part of his life that he never thinks about anymore. He still likes the tattoo. jgoose71 0 #9 May 4, 2009 When ever I consider a tattoo I have to ask myself "What will it look like when I'm 90 (if I live that long)?" I've often thought about this for some strange reason.. I saw a tat of a 3-ring release (can't remember if I actually saw it or just a picture).. Although I couldn't help but think it was kinda cool, part of me thought it was a bit gay as well.. I'm of 2 minds.. On the one hand, it's your body - do whatever the hell makes you happy.. On the other hand, I can't help but cringe a little when I see one, even if I found out they had 10 000 jumps.. I feel the same way about a lot of body art.. I don't like it personally, even though I have several piercings and a tattoo myself!!! And my tat is a black scorpion on my left shoulder-blade.. It's unique in the sense that my friend designed it for me, but so common at the same time.. I'm not exactly the first person to get a scorpion, and a tat on the shoulder-blade isn't exactly ground-breaking!! I still love mine and often don't like other people's!! I'm really trying to make the point that skydiving has a unique circumstance that the glamour can wane very quickly. Anyone can do what they want with their skin. Pegandmeg 0 #24 May 4, 2009 Thanks a lot for the replies. A guy got a tattoo that was mostly about something else with a closing pin slipped into the tattoo. He just got his A license and has 30 jumps. Another guy with 250 jumps and a B license gave him a hard time about it. He doesn't need me to fight his battles for him, I just wanted to know other people's opinions.

He doesn't need me to fight his battles for him, I just wanted to know other people's opinions. When I had about 100 jumps and thought I was the world's youngest sky-goddess (OMG that's so funny now that I realise how crap I am!!!) I considered getting something with a closing pin in it.. I'm so glad I didn't, because I'm at a stage where I've mostly not jumped in the last 4-5 years and I'm not sure I would consider myself a skydiver in the same sense as when I thought I would have 10 000 jumps by now... My existing tat is far less meaningful to me now than when I got it 12 years ago, but it's part of me and I'm very fond of it still. I never thought I'd want another one, but for the past year or so I've really wanted a very colourful piece.. And now, much to my surprise, I know I will get a second tat - I just haven't crystallised in my mind exactly what it will look like yet. Thing is.. No matter whether I like someone's self-expression or not, I'm always very interested in *why* they chose to do it & what it means to them."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
