Tatto idea

I say no, and here's the thing. Tattoos are significant for the reason of telling a story and helping us remember where we've been. You've got the right idea, but I'm not sure about the whole "remembering a major injury" is the way to go.
The ripchord thing, maybe, but before you get it do this for me; wait 9 months. If in 9 months you still want the tattoo THEN get it. Any major thing you want to do in life, think about it for 9 months and if you still feel as passionate about it, then get it.

I have a gaelic shamrock on my right shoulder. I got it for my grandfather who past away 3 years to the day. I waited 3 years and I was just as passionate about it now as I was then. I think its a beautiful tattoo and it holds major significance. If getting the date of your injury is significant enough to you then I say wait and then get it.

All tattoos should tell a story, and I don't know anyone who doesn't have a story to tell. If you don't your boring.

But Why would you choose your accident over say your first jump?... And why just have the date surely a big full back design of you going in would make for a far better story?:)
At the end of the day your body...
.....And you thought Kiwis couldn't fly!!!!

The artist's name is Mikey Jenkins at Memorial Tattoo in ATL. I had found the design several years ago, but we changed some things. As far as I know I haven't seen another tattoo like it. Mikey did an awesome job, especially the shading. That isn't really a great picture of it but you get the idea.

Mikey's rate was $125/hr. I was there for about 2.5 and he only charged me 2. What a nice guy :)

That's pretty sweet tattoo you got on your lower back. Where did you find the design?

The artist had done a different kind of butterfly made of knotwork before, and so we took that design and changed it to suit what I wanted. For me, it represents my Irish roots, and wings to take me wherever I want to go, skydiving included, so for me, it's kind of a skydiving tattoo even though it doesn't look like one.

Hmmm ... I don't have any where near 500 jumps (yet), does that mean I can have the surgical scars removed B|

Tat's are a very personal thing ... this has always been my advise

- Don't get one unless you plan on keeping it.
- Avoid getting ones that you can not cover up if you work in a white-collar world, not everyone thinks there cool.
- NAMES are absolutely NEVER a good idea >:(
- Always be completely SOBER when you sit down in the chair :S

As far as getting a skydiving theme tat ... I look at it this way … there are two kinds of people in this world, those that Skydive and those that don't. We have all seen the look in a person’s eye’s when they come back from that first tandem … some go on to AFF and some buy the t-shirt and go home.

Skydivers seem to be attracted to jumping out of planes like bugs attracted to the blue bug zapper light on the back porch ... we all know the dangers but something keeps us coming back for more.

I have debated this same question for myself .... wow will someone else think I'm an asshole for getting a skydiving tat cause I don't have 500 jumps ?

I guess you have to answer the question for yourself ... do you enjoy jumping out of a perfectly good airplane or not !
99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different

I don't really agree with that... Skydiving, even if someone leaves the sport before 500 jumps, will always be a part of you. There's something about jumping that changes people, and whether you have 5 jumps or 500, it's something you take with you forever.

Except for how it will make you feel like a poser to have people ask "oh skydiving tattoo - cool - you must have lots of jumps". Just to tell them you have not done it for years and only got a few skydives.

I don't have any tattoos, and don't care to. But being that they are quite permanent - think twice, reassess, think again, and if you still really want one - talk to your friends to see what they think. Of course if you don't care about others opinions then just do what you like - it'll make you happy, at least for the time being.

Personally, it's just tacky to have for the last 10 years all the guys have barbwire tats around the bicep, and all the girls have a trampstamp. I think it's not that original to have everybody conform :)
