dannydan 5 #28 April 19, 2008 yeah I know.... And I am glad that you pointed me BACK to that passage... I never could find it again after that time... I was like 8 or 9 years old when i read and it burned into me like almost no other memory of my youth!... Not that I have been an angel since then eitherI do believe in not acting out on one and not another! But I am just as fucked by NOT following the rules as is most of us homosapians down here! I dunno, there is some really really fantastic artists out there this is for sure.... Chris yours is a fine example of detail bro! My best bud here at home has one similar in "idea" (under the skin/"to the bone") like yours... Its an American eagle however the opening wounds are like talon claw marks shredding the skin with the eagle/stars and stripes in a very subtle blend underneath the shreads.... It is way awesome! I guess maybe I just dont have the guts (maybe) to get that permanant with a tat on me!.... Imean somedays I think of something MEANINGFUL, cool, badass etc etc, but then I think of nah, thats just not me. My radical is just not that ready yet I suppose. I didnt try to come across as trying to "force" my opinion of my religous or not so religous beliefs to the op.... Just another side to the equation and THEN the sum of it all... woady 0 #31 April 19, 2008 I say no, and here's the thing. Tattoos are significant for the reason of telling a story and helping us remember where we've been. You've got the right idea, but I'm not sure about the whole "remembering a major injury" is the way to go. The ripchord thing, maybe, but before you get it do this for me; wait 9 months. If in 9 months you still want the tattoo THEN get it. Any major thing you want to do in life, think about it for 9 months and if you still feel as passionate about it, then get it. I have a gaelic shamrock on my right shoulder. I got it for my grandfather who past away 3 years to the day. I waited 3 years and I was just as passionate about it now as I was then. I think its a beautiful tattoo and it holds major significance. If getting the date of your injury is significant enough to you then I say wait and then get it. All tattoos should tell a story, and I don't know anyone who doesn't have a story to tell. If you don't your boring. You know what's similar between Cops and Firefighters? They both wanna be firefighters.
JohnMitchell 16 #32 April 19, 2008 Cool shamrock, liked the Michaelangelo (very iconoclastic), cool closing pins. Don't think I ever want a hackey coming out of my butt, though.I'm fifty and have no ink, but I have all the scars and memories to go with my 30+ years in the sport. Get all the ink you want; just don't get it where the judge will see it during the sentencing phase. My favorite tat story is Johnny Depp getting "Winona Forever" while he was dating Winona Ryder. After the breakup, he had it redone to read "Wino Forever". Perfect.
woady 0 #33 April 19, 2008 To add, and this is my personal opinion so take it as you will, these pictures of tattoos people have of ripchords coming out of their skin or skin folded over and pierced for chutes, these really don't look good. I mean the tattoo artist did a very good job, no doubt, but it looks pretty nasty. Then there's the whole having to explain it to everyone because no one knows what it is, including people who are into skydiving. What I'm getting at is why would you get something that isn't aesthetically pleasing to the eye and something you'll have to explain to your grand kids in 40 years. Also, what if in 3 years you decide maybe skydiving really isn't your thing? Like getting a girl's name tattooed on you. Just trying to look out for ya.You know what's similar between Cops and Firefighters? They both wanna be firefighters.
auburnguy 0 #34 April 19, 2008 tattoos can be removed, its called a laser. Its several hundred dollars but does work."If you don't like your job, you don't strike! Nightingale 0 #35 April 19, 2008 That is gorgeous!!! Who is the artist? Here's mine... I decided to do it about a year before I actually got it done, and had been stewing over it for about two years before that. Plus, the artist has a two to three month waiting list, so there's a lot of built in think time.
base_nz 0 #36 April 19, 2008 I grew up behind a tattooist and have designed a few for friends of mine, I would suggest getting a picture drawn and putting it up next to your bed for 6 months....... If after waking up and looking at that picture every morning if you still think it looks as good and you havent seen something you might like better after looking at tat mags in that time....Go for it!Just Remember tattoos last a lot longer than most marriages these days and laser surgery is expensive fuckin painful and scars! So you should put SOME thought into it And think about work in the future and coving them.... As my old man used to say "Ive never seen someone discriminated against because they DIDNT have Tattoos".....And you thought Kiwis couldn't fly!!!! newbloomer 0 #37 April 19, 2008 Go for it! Tatoos are hot! I have about 4 more I intend on getting sometime soon. I started getting tatoos when I was 17, the only one that I regret is small and getting covered up with something else next month. I still love the rest."not all grief is bad grief, just ask Charlie Brown"
woady 0 #38 April 19, 2008 The artist's name is Mikey Jenkins at Memorial Tattoo in ATL. I had found the design several years ago, but we changed some things. As far as I know I haven't seen another tattoo like it. Mikey did an awesome job, especially the shading. That isn't really a great picture of it but you get the idea. Mikey's rate was $125/hr. I was there for about 2.5 and he only charged me 2. What a nice guy :) That's pretty sweet tattoo you got on your lower back. Where did you find the design? You know what's similar between Cops and Firefighters? They both wanna be firefighters.
CSpenceFLY 1 #39 April 19, 2008 I love the "I like my tattoo but all the others look like shit" comment. Classic!!To the OP. If you want a tattoo get one. Don't wait 9 months for this fucker. Next he will want you to send him your design so he can approve it.
woady 0 #40 April 19, 2008 Sure, you could listen to Spence and go ahead and get it and two weeks or a month or year later when you say to yourself "Ya know what, I really don't like that tattoo" that is when it all starts going down hill. You're not going to like it any more than when you first get it and you'll grow to hate it. Err on the side of caution, especially on spontaneous decisions that last a life time. Its like having unprotected sex with the local club hoe; you only have to f*ck her once before you get herpes...ain't that right Spence To add, Spence, let me edit what I said because I see now there are a lot more tattoos than I first saw. I like most of the ones people posted here except a few, including yours. I don't mean that offensively, I just don't. Obviously other's don't feel the same way I do so don't feel too bad. Besides, as long as your happy with your tat what does it matter what anyone says? You know what's similar between Cops and Firefighters? They both wanna be firefighters. SarahC07 0 #43 April 20, 2008 Don't wait 9 months. If you really think you want to have it permanently inked on you - then ask a few people you really trust what they think. Discuss it with them and then make your decision. As others have stated, don't put it somewhere visible in a professional environment. A couple of the people I work with "accidentally" saw my tattoo - and guess what? a) they think it's cool (or so they say) and b) they NEVER would have guessed I had one. I guarantee you not all of my co-workers would react the same way and I would probably be taken less seriously in the future if a few 'higher ups' had seen it. I already have age working against me. Don't wait until you have 500 jumps either. I think skydiving stays with you wether you are an active jumper or not. If you're comfortable with it and all the criticism you may or may not receive - DO IT.
CSpenceFLY 1 #44 April 20, 2008 QuoteBesides, as long as your happy with your tat what does it matter what anyone says? Exactly. That is why I didn't feel the need to comment on yours. It's nice art but I would not do THAT to myself. It is a personal thing and without taking the time to find out what it means to someone and why they choose what they did it mean nothing to you and is none of your business. Whether or not I would put one on myself ,which yours I would not, has nothing to do with someone else liking and enjoying it the rest of their life. base_nz 0 #50 April 20, 2008 QuoteI I decide I don't like it after I get it ill just have it lasered off. Mate........ Do a bit of homework! Its a lot more painful then getting a Tattoo and if you think its going to look like it did before the tattoo think again. Ive seen some pretty good scars left afterwards. Go to a tattooist and make sure you tell him 'its alright .... I can always laser it off if i don't like it!' and watch his face when you tell him. Just a bad attitude to have when looking for a Tattoo maybe start with a pierced ear? work up to an eyebrow ring? You could always hang a closing pin off it and talk to people about that?.....And you thought Kiwis couldn't fly!!!!
