banesanura 1 #1 May 13, 2009 I've been a member of the couch surfing website when a coworker of mine decided to put his 2 week notice in and travel the world. He told me that he was just going to couch surf and sent me to the website. A year later, laid off and plenty of time on my hands I've been thinking of couch surfing, but I haven't done it before so I'm just getting experience from other people etc... Has any one on this site couch surfed or hosted? I've hosted in the past, but I've never been the one in need of a couch.Best Girl Scout Ever.
d_squared431 0 #2 May 13, 2009 I was a snow bum and did it for 6 years but only with people I knew or friends of friends. I would never couch surf at random peoples houses.TPM Sister#130ONTIG#1 I love vodka.I love vodka cause it rhymes with Tuaca~LisaH You having a clean thought is like billyvance having a clean post.iluvtofly
PolluxSJ 0 #3 May 13, 2009 An ex of mine used to host people often in San Francisco. She ended up making a long term friend out of it when she hosted a couple who was moving into the area. I think she lives with them now... She ended up surfing a couch in Hawaii for a week earlier this year. Another friend in San Diego had a week long fling with a guy she hosted. I've twice had people ask to stay with me in Los Angeles, and twice had them flake at the last minute. It's a good idea, and combined with a ride-sharing site can really open up some possibilities for travel and making new friends. It's just not right for everyone... nerdgirl 0 #4 May 13, 2009 Quote Has any one on this site couch surfed or hosted? I've hosted couch surfers. Generally had a lot of fun with it. Some are really cool. Some less so. Haven't had any experiences that I'd call bad, but I don't accept all requests. Just said "no" to a group of 5 people from Europe who wanted a place to stay for 5 days. Have a guy from Mississippi staying with me tomorrow night who needs go to the French consulate here. Haven't ever used the site to find a place to surf, altho' in the past have surfed friends' couches many times. /Marg Act as if everything you do matters, while laughing at yourself for thinking anything you do matters. rower 0 #5 May 14, 2009 I have surfed and hosted many times. I exercise logic and reason in my choices of hosts and guests and have had no problems whatsoever. It has been the single most fun/awesome/inspiring experience in years.
MikeJD 0 #6 May 14, 2009 You'd probably have to be pretty unlucky to get in any real trouble, but even so it's not for me. If you're going to do it, why not keep it within the dz.com community? People are all over, and you've already got a connection. I'd feel much happier putting up somebody that I'd talked to on here. As long as they hadn't been mean to me on here.
