jimmytavino 16 #6 May 19, 2009 hahaha Very Nice. I can see where all Moms would identify with seeing the Mother and her ducklings make it to safety..Of course it took a MAN to make it happen !!! hahaha I saw the movie EARTH a couple of weeks ago and learned that some ducks DO nest up off the ground. A scene in that film showed a family with ducklings emerging from a nest in a hole in a tree, maybe 10 or 12 feet off the ground.. Well those babies Were JUMPERS!!!!! and just like the ones who so happily BASEd, off that ledge, these flyers Opened their wings arched like a pro, and fell/flew to a leaf covered forest floor,,,one at a time and each one documented brilliantly and often in slow motion,,,by the film crew.... They plopped to the ground. some a bit head high, some starting to get into a track.... and bounced, happily finishing,, on their feet....none the worse for the wear...!!! That scene is worth the price of admission....The man here,, did a good job to catch them as they launched....( that cement sidewalk would have been a tough landing zone) and good thing the roads had been cordoned off for the parade.... Only thing is..... HOw did they have video of every moment of the adventure, ??? and from multiple camera angles...? I guess the NEWS is everywhere!!!!!.. good clip jt a 3914

I had no idea they nest off the ground like that, that's interesting. Was the EARTH movie worth seeing? Nor did I,,, the movie was very good and as you'd imagine some of the footage was great... It's all good, but we left the theater thinking , "they left OUT so much".... since the natural world and the oceans and jungles, and Ice caps and forests have Soooo many amazing stories and visuals... I went with my daugher and her boyfriend, to a weekday matinee, during her spring break a while ago. ( She's a 7th grade Soc. Studies Teacher) saved a few bucks that way... It was time well spent but a film better rented, once it's available , as long as you have a nice screen at home,, ( which we don't !! ) ( the discovery channel series Earth may have some of the footage compliled here, and vice versa... ) NOW back to the QUACKERS!!!!!! jmy

riddler 0 #16 May 20, 2009 I've lived in CO for most of my life, and once I saw state troopers escorting ELK along the shoulder of C-470, just to keep them out of traffic until they could clear some fence and get back to the foothills. I was doing about 75 MPH at the time in a small car, and I had some visions of what it would look like if a small car collides with a full-grown elk at 75 Trapped on the surface of a sphere.
