wmw999 2,588 #27 May 29, 2009 Take her to at least one fancy restaurant dinner. The kind where you both have to dress up, and you get a maitre'd who tilts his head in a superior fashion . NY does that really, really well, and for all his objections at the time to the concept of dressing up, my son still remembers fancy dinners from trips. Wendy P. There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. Thanatos340 1 #28 May 29, 2009 How dare you suggest something so Vile and Misogynistic as... Ooops. Sorry, Wrong thread.Saw Blue Man Group in Vegas. Yes, it is a Great show. Last Night I bought us tickets to "In the Heights" on Broadway (Musical with somewhat of a "RENT" flavor). Found a Great coupon code in the link micduran posted that got me 50% off the tickets and got pretty good seats (2nd Row Front Mezz dead center). Also just found out about the GMA and Today Show Friday Concerts. One has Brad Paisley and the other has Rob Thomas playing while we are there. (I know which my daughter will be choosing already.. Oh well I can see Brad Paisley some other time.) shah269 0 #29 May 29, 2009 OK here is the gig about NYC. Walk around, look around, all the food is good, all the things to do are fun. The people in the village are great. The people up town are in a hurry but if you get lost they are more than happy to help you out. Yeah it's a bit city but.....look around...it's actually a bunch of small neighbrohoods strung together. Have a great time!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. The only thing that falls from the sky is birdshit and fools! When I went with my dad for my 16th bday we ate at Tavern on the Green for lunch one day and at the Rainbow Room for dinner another day. Definitely both memorable experiences, since fancy dining definitely wasn't an every day experience for me. Not that it's an ordinary experience for me these days either. BikerBabe 0 #31 May 29, 2009 Blue Man Group in NYC is a completely different experience than it is in Vegas. They do it in a tiny theatre...maybe 300 people, so pretty much everyone participates. It's AMAZING. Of course, getting tickets is a challenge. Only thing i haven't seen mentioned here is that you should really try to hit the Metropolitan Museum of Art when you're there. If you like art at ALL...it's awesome. The Guggenheim and MOMA are nice too, but The MMA has a wider range of time periods and styles. Plus it's right on Central Park Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
Thanatos340 1 #32 May 29, 2009 Yep, We are planning on doing that Friday Night before we go to the theater. I was hoping for a great Steakhouse like Peter Lugers but the Youngin' is one of those wacko tree huggin Vegetarians (Where O Where Did I ever go so wrong..) so that might be somewhat of a waste.. Since we will be all Gussied up for the theater, I probably cant get away with just handing her a Salt Shaker and Pointing towards the woods like I usually do. (The stuff she eats is not food, It is stuff Food Eats!!) Actually I hoping we can find a really nice Italian Place near the theater district for dinner that night. skymama 37 #33 May 29, 2009 Is your daughter the active type? I just found this link for FREE kayak rentals on the weekends. I'm just bummed we won't be there on a weekend, I think my son would really like that. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

I'm just bummed we won't be there on a weekend, I think my son would really like that. The downtown boathouse is EXCELLENT! I used to volunteer and lead trips there and it's where I got my start kayaking. An awesome experience seeing the city from the water. I highly suggest it for anyone up that way (especially for those of you that live there and still have no concept of the fact that you live on an island!). They have several locations now. When I lived there it was just on Pier 26 in Tribeca and every weekend they offered public paddling trips either up river to the Intrepid or out into the harbor to the Statue of Liberty. edit: PS...it really is totally free (though they do accept donations if you are so willing). The staff are all volunteers, so don't fuss at them when there is a long line!Killing threads since 2004.
