Adriandavies 0 #2 August 20, 2005 Basically you have to learn how to pack as a part of the JM1 course and therefore you need it to get your B certificate. To get the packing certificate you have to satisfy the following: Has been tested to the following standards: 1) Reassembled a parachute assembly, having been stripped down to component parts. 2) Cleared the canopy/lines of twists and tangles. 3) Performed a line sequence check. 4) Knows how to perform all the packing checks at the appropriate stages. 5) Packed the parachute ready for jumping. 6) Instructed on how to inspect the assembly for damage and deterioration. 7) Instructed in container/canopy compatibility. Also look at section 6.9 of the ops manual. This is as easy or as hard as the examiner wants to make it but be prepared to find inversions and lines going places which you would never normally expect (eg through the grommets of the slider...thanks to Can Can). A packing course will normally help to get you to this standard and to the point where you can pack and jump your own gear but you have to be supervised by another skydiver with a packing certificate (please correct me if I'm wrong about this). To pack unsupervised you need the certificate.
