nessvegas 0 #1 August 20, 2005 I am looking to purchase my first altimeter, I really like the look of the analog altimeter for visual glances that I have been using, but I also really want the features in a Pro-Track type of unit. I found a unit that is new this year called the Altitrack. I wondered if anyone had any experience with the unit. Cost looked ok at $299.00 and it would seem to be just want I want. Problem is I have not even seen one at the DZ where I am training. So I am hoping someone out there is using one and can give me a review. slotperfect 7 #2 August 20, 2005 In the future you will want to post questions about gear in the Gear & Rigging forum - you will get more views and more responses. The Altitrack has not been released yet. I plan to demo that item when it does officially come out. I saw it at PIA Symposium in January, and there are several previous discussions about this item if you search the forums. My recommendation for you is to continue to borrow an altimeter, or buy a cheap Altimaster II on eBay until you have done your "due diligence" to figure out what you want.Arrive Safely John
nessvegas 0 #3 August 20, 2005 Sorry, I did not mean to post in the wrong place. I assumed that this was the area for the post because I am new to the site. I will be more "aware" in the future. _________________________________________ I married the right one......it just took me 2 times!
slotperfect 7 #4 August 20, 2005 No biggie! As you can see, the lovely Skymama moved it from Intros & Greets for ya! Sidebar: the Intros & Greets forum is for just that - introducing yourself and others' welcome to the forums. It's also a perfect place to post general questions about the site or about posting in the forums. Back on my head! Arrive Safely John
Amazon 7 #5 August 21, 2005 There is nothing that says you can not have several alti's. I have an Alti II on my hand.. and a Protrack and Pro Dyttter in my helmet. Start with the Alti II and get others along the way.

slotperfect 7 #7 August 21, 2005 QuoteIn sport: 33 years Jeanne's Alti II is one of the originals made by SSE back in the day. It's made out of wood, has Roman numerals and a strap with a buckle. I have two or three altimeters on each jump as well. I wear a Neptune on my left hand and a Pro Dytter in my right ear all the time. I wear an Alti-2 Galaxy on my right wrist as well when I'm doing AFF. I have a Bonehead Mudflap mount, but I haven't tried it yet.Arrive Safely John
ZigZagMarquis 9 #8 August 22, 2005 QuoteGraduating this weekend...Need Advice Please BEER!!!! ... but seriously... CASE OF BEER!!!!! ... okay, really... I jump an Altimaster III. There are some other analog models out there that appear basically the same, but a bit less expensive. They work and the money you save over buying one of the more expensive digitals with lots of bells and whistles like how fast you fell, what altitude you got out at, what altitude you pulled at, how many jumps you have, how many points you turned, etc. can be used to do MORE JUMPS! slotperfect 7 #9 August 23, 2005 QuoteI jump an Altimaster III The Altimaster III (made by SSE) is no longer made, and SSE is out of business. You can still find them on eBay, and I'm fairly sure Alti-2 will service it. The manufacturing rights for the SSE line of altimeters now belongs to Alti-2, who makes an altimeter similar to the Altimaster III called the Galaxy. Quote. . .and the money you save . . . can be used to do MORE JUMPS! I heartily agree with that statement. Most of your money early on should be spent on skydives. You are on the right track buying gear though . . . start with the inexpensive stuff like altimeters, helmets, goggles, gloves, jumpsuits, etc. Have fun!Arrive Safely John
ripcord4 0 #10 August 25, 2005 Any of the Altimasters are just great. The digital stuff is fine, but pricey, and won't tell your altitude any better.
