Nataly 38 #26 June 12, 2009 Quote I walked in on a housekeeping lady using my perfume... this was in Jamaica. I told her she could have the bottle since it smelled so nice on her... better than on me. At first she was embarrassed, but you know what, I figured I am so much better off financially than some of the hotel staff in the islands, I had a ton of perfume at home anyway.... maybe it made her feel good. I don't know... made me feel good, at least. See, like you, I can't really bring myself to feel any ill-will toward the cleaning lady for that very reason.. But on the same token, it's still gross and now I have to throw away the little makeup I have.. I think I would feel less upset if I wore makeup all the time and bought the stuff all the time; so maybe I would consider it a "regular" expense instead of a luxury.. I'm now going to spend ages without anything because I just can't justify to myself spending money twice on something unnecessary.. Just the same, I now have nothing for the odd occasion where I might want to just dress up a little I suppose it's not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.. Probably should have known better, but I don't travel all that much so it never even occurred to me. I still think it's weird/gross to use someone else's makeup!! I can much more easily understand trying on someone's perfume!!"There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

tigra 0 #29 June 12, 2009 I've heard that some of the larger resorts actually search the housekeeping staff before they leave at the end of the day - every day. How humiliating is that? They take tourism seriously over there, period. Still, I prefer to think they are decent honest people who wouldn't steal even if they were not afraid of getting caught. turtlespeed 226 #31 June 12, 2009 Quote I agree that a stranger using your make-up is gross and should not have happened. Especially by an employee that should be bonded. Unfortunately, you can't prove it. Throw the stuff away and call it a day. The energy you are putting into this is just going to hit a brick wall and nothing is going to be done. As you've seen already. Live and learn, and don't leave your stuff on the counter. Yes - but if you don't stand up and fight for what is right the world degrades a little more. I say go get three postal employees and have a field day!I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

Jeffwxyz 0 #35 June 13, 2009 OK. So what exactly are you doing at night that you need the sheets replaced?
tigra 0 #36 June 13, 2009 Most hotels give you clean sheets and clean towels everyday when they clean your room whether you need them or not. I guess the trend now is to leave it up to the guest -if they want to be more "environmentally friendly" they can keep their same towels or sheets for a day or two, but that is still at the guest's option, not the housekeeping staff. tbrown 26 #37 June 13, 2009 QuoteI like to think of myself as a reasonable person.. I've been unimpressed with the hotel in general.. It's a Holiday Inn in Paris and claims to be a 4 star.. They took away all my towels on day 2, haven't replaced my sheets all week, lost internet connection on days 3 and 4, didn't have hot water on day 5, and now this.. Start a fire in your room when you leave. Your humble servant.....Professor Gravity !

Nataly 38 #40 June 13, 2009 Quote Quote Right now, they are using your hairbrush toothbrush to scrub the toilet bowl. Yeah.. I just kept thinking of the hundreds of toilets that lady cleaned before she dipped her fingers in my facecream - which had also been used.. Eww, eww, EWWWWW!!! I brought it up to a different manager today who took the matter seriously. If she's underpaid, it's less reprehensible but it doesn't change the fact that I bought all that stuff over a long period of time.. I may make more money than she does but I can't afford to replace all my makeup all at once.. It's not that much, but it's still my hard-earned money that I don't want to spend again. I thought of leaving the stuff behind, but this only occurred to me after I checked out.. Still... Nataly 38 #42 June 13, 2009 Quote What she did was wrong, but I hope she doesn't lose her job. Well yes, but she signed a contract and agreed not to do this sort of thing.. I'd feel slightly more sympathetic if she had stolen something useful like money, because then I might think she *needed* it.. I'd also feel more forgiving is she had "borrowed" something more hygienic like perfume, because at least no one really suffers any real loss as there is no problem to re-use the stuff.. I made the point to the hotel staff that I could understand the temptation, etc., and that I was only looking to get my stuff replaced - how they deal with their staff is up to their own judgement. Although I feel that it would be a bit extreme for her to get fired, I also think she is responsible/accountable for her own actions. Maybe it's the only time she's ever done anything like this, but people rarely ever do something only once - especially if they keep getting away with it... If anything, in time people get bolder and behaviour gets worse if it's never nipped in the bud. I too hope that a reprimand will do the trick, but it should definitely not be ignored."There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss
