LuckyMcSwervy 0 #51 June 20, 2009 Quote If you ever want to try pizza that comes out of the oven that way, & you're in or near NJ, let me know. There's a pizza shop in Trenton that rates in the top 10 nationally for thin-crust (couple years ago they were rated 2nd behind an ancient place in NYC). It's visually one of the ugliest pizzas you'll ever see, it's crispy on the bottom, bubbled on top, kinda round, & there's always a small piece cut-out of the middle, but it's heavenly. They've been in this location for at lest 60 years, & on Friday & Saturday evenings there can be lines up to 25 people long waiting to get in, STANDING IN THE RAIN! DeLorenzo's?? We go there for lunch during the week. Yea, the one in the 'Burg on, what is it, Revere? [edit] Nope, Hudson near Swan! NOT the one in Robbinsville! Some day I'll tell the story about the New Mexico gal having her first "tomato pie" in Trenton. It's right on Hamilton Avenue... And it's a bitch to park at lunchtime... But.. here's a confession. I don't like their pizza too much. It's always too overcooked for my liking.Always be kinder than you feel.
DrewEckhardt 0 #52 June 20, 2009 Quote If I had to get fast food, I'd get a 12" Subway for $5 and split it with Valinda. For cheap food we split either a 2 entree combo from the Hawaiian BBQ place for $6 or a torta and tacos from the neighborhood taqueria. Better than a chain and usually cheaper. DavidB 0 #55 June 20, 2009 Funny, I was raised on pies like that; cooked in real coal ovens. I didn't like them when I was young because the crust was so crispy. As I got older it seemed pizza got softer & mushier. Now it's a struggle to find one that is, IMHO, "done enough." After 5 years the local place still isn't sure about me when I order a pie & then tell them not well done, "burn it!" Usually it's "almost" done. The problem is pizza ovens are gas hogs. It would just cost too much to keep one at coal oven temps, so instead of the pie being done in 5-6 minutes, it takes 20 & comes out soft & limp. Damn, now I'm going to have to drive into the 'burg. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

JohnMitchell 16 #63 June 21, 2009 Okay, it's Sunday morning after the pig roast. The pig spent 7 hour on the spit over the coals, big smoke box over it. Every bit was done to perfection. My bathroom scale says I'm up about 5 pounds this morning. I'm certainly not hungry this morning and I think I'll skip lunch too. That Lynn and Debbie sure know how to roast a pig. They gave me a map of all the restaurants that deliver . . . in San Francisco. I think it's going to be cold when it gets here. Thanks for the site anyway. You need to learn how to do "clickies", though.
