I got a wake up call last week. I got short of breath and nauseous, they sent me to the emergency room, D-526 drove the ambulance. B| I got two different inhalers and steriods. I have not smoked since then - maybe it will take this time.

Good luck!

Never been short of breath but I know that I'm not up to my full potential in the breathing department.
I used to be a RT and would do my FEV1 and FVC,well the whole test and said if I started to show signs of decreasing volumes I'd quit then...

Well,I don't pracatice any longer but just tired of the $$$$$ and potential..well the health risks involved..hell I've been through enough trauma I don't need anymore medical shit:|

Thanks!! I am going to need all the luck I can get....
It's been a bad habit since I was 14 and as you know that's been a few years...just a few:)

As long as we don't kill each other in the process we should be ok;):P:S:D:D:D:D

GOOD LUCK!!!
It won't be easy but so worth whatever you go through.
The best advice I got (quit 13+ years ago) - "the craving goes away if you smoke or not"
I used the patch. Way back then it made the physical part of quitting easier. The mental game is what will get you.
Be patient with the faults of others; they have to be patient with yours.

Thanks for the "Good "Luck":)
In the past I've tried the patch,..I've trued the drugs Wellbutrin and Chantix.
What I did not do was really,I mean really want to quit. This time I'm at the sick and tired point of smoking.
I don't enjoy it any longer,I keep adding up the $$$ and thinking what I could spend the $$$ on something I do enjoy.
The plus side too is Christine WANT to quit also. This I am hoping will give us that extra mental"edge"

Honestly, you'll have an easier time with "cold turkey" if you curb coffee for a few weeks too. Buy lots of gum.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Seriously..I don't know if I can curb the coffee...I will cut down on it so I guess I'm curbing it a bit
Gum...can't drives me crazy chewing..feel like I need to swallow the stuff after 1 min:S

I went through bags and bags of those hard pretzel nuggets.

Did you just crunch themup and chew them, or were you all sensual like and stuff?

I tried the patch long ago but couldn't get the damned thing to stay lit :P

Good Luck you guys, I quit 3 years ago and it turned out to be easier to go cold turkey than I thought. Of course, watching my father go after fighting off numerous cancers over 40 years helped me to do it too. Ditto on the gum, it helps.

You need something as inspiration. For me, it was a little heart attack 7 months ago. :S For you, I'd suggest focusing on your other half.

I've quit 2 or 3 times in the past, always cold turkey. I've found that for me, it isn't the physical craving that's the problem, it's the "ceremony" of lighting-up & smoking I have the most trouble breaking. Food, like the pretzel nuggets mentioned above, are a good distraction as long as you stay aware & don't transfer one ceremony for another that's just as unhealthy. It's not easy after 40 years of ceremony, & I'm still learning to deal with it. So far I think I've managed to do a decent job, if you consider that I've only gained 3-4 pounds since Thanksgiving.

Feel free to give me a shout if you need someone to talk to, or just vent! Not only am I living it myself, but my brother quit smoking a couple months ago after 30+ years also, so I KNOW how it feels to be on the receiving end of a quitter's temper.

When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

If you look at some old threads out there, it seems that postwhoring can help during the tougher days :P.

There's always a crowd here ready to help out with that, too. It's all part of the free service.

Good luck with quitting.
