Flight 666

Recommended Posts

I watched a documentary called Flight 666 a couple days ago. It followed part of Iron Maiden's 2008/2009 world tour wherein they hit 11 countries for 23 concerts and a total of over 500,000 fans.

They wanted to limit time away from their families, so they did the tour in 45 days by leasing a 757 and flying all musicians and suppport crew on one plane. The plane was set up specially for the task and was painted up pretty nicely (see pic.)

Anyway, what was cool was seeing video of Iron Maiden's lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, flying some of the legs. He's an ATP type rated in several heavy airliners. He's a Capt. for a UK airline called Astraeus, but typically only does special flights like refugee transport and bringing troops back from Afghanistan.

Even if you're not really into Maiden (and I'm not), the film is pretty good for the interviews, etc.

I bet the in-flight announcements were pretty damn funny...

In the shots showing Dickinson flying, he was dressed just like any other airline pilot, but in one of them he giggled like a kid with a cool toy. The band members joked around with the cabin crew a bit, and after a few legs the flight attendants started wearing Iron Maiden T-shirts instead of normal uniforms.

I was on that plane when it came to Newark. Or I should say worked on it. The crew O2 was low and we serviced it. We got some great pictures with Bruce and his Gang. Great looking paint job on that plane.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!
