Twoply 0 #1 July 3, 2009 I was starting to fall asleep on the couch, when I hear this scratching sound from the floor vent. I put a trap in place and this morning there's a dead little mouse. Great. We just moved in here, so I guess they came with the house, but now to find the nest... Any sugestions or tricks to getting rid of them would be great. warpedskydiver 0 #4 July 3, 2009 D-Con But not if you have a cat. It is a yearly occurrence around here when it gets cold, the mice want to get to a warm place. I live next to a wooded area, thankfully we have neighborhood mousers. They have gotten into exterior walls, the ceiling, and other places, they can flatten out so they get in through the smallest of gaps.

cocheese 0 #7 July 3, 2009 Ok this is sick and not my idea and i have never tried it, but i'm told it works great. 5 gallon bucket 1 gallon of anti-freeze 1 beer can 1 coat hanger 2 spoons of peanut butter poke a small hole in the bottom of can and use the coat hanger to make the can a log rolling contest for the mice which then fall into the antifreeze. Put the peanut butter around the can. Build a ramp going to the peanut butter can of death. Place the bucket in the attic or crawl space/basement etc.
Heatmiser 0 #8 July 3, 2009 Not very humane, but the sticky traps where they run work well. You just have to drown the mouse when you find them What you say is reflective of your knowledge...HOW ya say it is reflective of your experience. Airtwardo Someone's going to be spanked! DavidB 0 #10 July 3, 2009 Yo! Antifreeze is expensive! Water works just as well! When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.
likestojump 3 #11 July 3, 2009 Electronic humane kill traps at any hardware store powered by AA batteries. They have an LED light indicating being armed and having a kill. And are quite effective.
MikeJD 0 #12 July 3, 2009 I had cats for 13 years, and of course no mice. Earlier this year, my first without cats, I got my first batch of mice. Big, and bold as you like. One actually ran over my bare foot while I was sitting at the table! I think there's no substitute for the classic sprung mousetrap - they're designed to instantly break the mouse's neck or crush its head, so ideally they're pretty quick and clean. But be prepared to put the mouse out of its misery if not. I put down just two of those traps, and caught four mice within two days and a fifth a few days later. Since then I've had no problems. The electronic trap caught nothing for me. I think poison is pretty effective, but I wanted to be as humane as possible - and also if the mice die where you can't get to them, then you'll have to put up with the smell as they rot. You can bait your traps with peanut butter, but I bought some specialist stuff that smelled kind of like caramel and that seemed pretty irresistible to them. I'd also recommend putting all your food into plastic containers, at least until you're rid of your pests. Good luck!
trumanjsparks 0 #13 July 3, 2009 Evil, yet brilliant. I commend you, sir. Broken hearts and dirty windows make it difficult to see. That's why last night and this morning always look the same to me.
