lippy 918 #1 July 2, 2009 Today's my first day of vacation, and yesterday I got a call from my boss saying that they're willing to release me to pursue other opportunities within the company, and likely I'll be able to relocate within 2 months. I've got 2 prospects within the company and there's a rumor of a 3rd that would be my ideal job. I sent the following letter to my boss 2 weeks ago and I guess it got his attention! Boss's name and company name have been changed because I like these names better.QuoteKing Douche, I would like to speak with you about my current job situation. As you’re aware, I’ve been speaking with a few different people within Porn Barn about new positions. I am interested in leaving my current position in LAO. I feel that my current work load/schedule is overwhelming me, and not achieving the original goal of my position. Perhaps I’m just not a good coach/teacher, or maybe it’s that the limited time that I can spend working with the individual techs is not enough, or maybe it’s the people that I’m trying to work with, but I feel that I’m not making a difference in the efficiency of the labs. Personally I think the attitudes of our techs are a huge problem, and I am not sure how to change that. The other major problem that I’m having is the days off schedule. I think that the policy of ‘Saturday and Sundays are days off’ is ridiculous. I spend the majority of my weekends in hotels in oilfield towns, and I don’t consider these to be ‘days off’. I realize that we work in Wireline, and I realize that my position doesn’t work if I try to adhere to a ’24 and 6’ schedule, or something similar. I don’t expect to work only Monday – Friday, and I don’t expect to work a solid 24 and 6. I do find it insulting that if I come out of living in hotels in one of our districts for 3 weeks, and want to take a 3-day weekend, the third day comes out of my vacation. I am planning on making a change with respect to my career situation. Currently, I don’t feel that I have any quality of life, and the financial compensation doesn’t justify the time and energy that I’m putting into the company. After 18 months as OE tech for LAO and not seeing much improvement, it is discouraging and depressing. I’ve been looking for work both inside and outside of Porn Barn for a few months now. I’ve had a few talks with other companies, but nothing that justifies turning away from the 8 years that I have with Porn Barn. Currently, I see the WISE position and the Algerian position as very real possibilities, and I would like to pursue them further. I don’t want to give an ultimatum of ‘let me transfer or I’ll quit’. I find those tactics immature. I would like your permission to pursue these positions further, with the understanding that both of them are likely to be filled within a couple of months. I don’t like talking about these things over email, but this is a time-sensitive issue and I’m not sure when we’ll have a chance to meet in person. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts here and/or know when would be a time to sit down and talk. It was good to get that shit off my chest, and even better to see it being acted onI got nuthin
