Vancouver has the talent and the goaltending, but I just don't think they are MEAN enough to win the Cup. JMHO.

What Siberian League did this Varlhamov goalie come from???
He's freaking incredible!!!!
What a game. Malkin stepped up BIG!!
Do you think Boston is reeling now???

i dunno but varlhamov is playing absolutly outstanding....if washington goes on, its because of him, hes pulling some aboslutly amazing saves.

malkin finally stepped it up...if him, crosby, and staal start playing really hard, its gonna go 7

i watched the OT of the boston game, wow, eric staal is all over the ice. Both teams are playing very hard and i really cant pick a sure winner in this one, its a coin toss, both are deserving to win it

Especially if, they wind-up going against the Ducks. The Ducks rely on their size and beating an opponent down. They like to agitate an opponent to comitting penalties. The Wings are in a position where they have to work around all that and get some wins. I think, it would be a darn good series: Vancouver and Detroit. Tonight will tell the tale!

The Canucks not mean enough to win the Cup? With the vicious Sedin sisters in the lineup? Surely you jest?

Was I dreaming or did I see a little news item about Maguire being short-listed for the GM job at the Minnesota Wild? Let's hope he gets the job.

I never said that! All I said was, it would be a real good match-up: Wings-Canucks. The Wings are in a 'do or die' situation and I hate to see such a skilled team beaten by a bunch of 'enforcers'. On the other hand, Detroit knew, going into the play-offs, their chances of meeting the Ducks was inevitable.

There's only two enforcers on the Ducks. Brown and Parros. Anaheim loves Parros. B|

The Ducks are actually a very skilled team who simply knows that a combination of being physical and skills is how you beat a highly skilled team that miraculously stays under the salary cap year after year.

Detroit has learned this and is why they bumped up their physicallity meter. ;)

Chuck,

Sorry...I didn't reference the post with the "mean" comment in it...my post wasn't directed to you.

I don't think of the Ducks as being a bunch of "enforcers"....the early 70's Flyers were the epitome of dirty, nasty, intimidation hockey...and the Ducks aren't even close. They play tough and hard...but that's what you have to do to win the Cup.

Skill alone won't get you there. I vividly remember Larry Robinson's huge hit on Gary Dornhoefer in the 1976 playoffs and the huge message it sent to the Flyers....the Canadiens could play rough too and couldn't be beat by intimidation. Of course, that was the first year of 4 straight Cups for the Canadiens. They combined the skills of Lemaire, Lafleur, Shutt with the defense and toughness of Robinson, Lapointe and Savard.

Don't forget Gilles Lupien. The Canadiens were a much stronger bunch when he arrived in '77.
I was at a Cleveland Barons (remember them?) game vs. Montreal in '78. Lupien beat up about four of the Barons during a game ending bench clearing brawl.:P

That's quite normal, just before the play-offs to 'beef-up' the defense but Detroit did not pick anyone up at the March deadline. The Wings, as I've said before, have gotten physical because that is what they have been met with... hard physical play! What are they supposed to do? Lay-down and holler 'uncle'? As for getting such quality players and staying under the cap, that's because Detroit has some really good scouts and people who are able to make the 'big deals'. Hossa is a good example. As I've said, Detroit can and will be 'physical' when they have to be but, they are primarily a 'finesse' team with many capable goal scorers. Have you ever noticed... how many different players score for Detroit? So many other teams only have two, maybe three goal scorers who are fed the puck more than others on their team.
What about Pronger? Who was just voted the 'dirtiest player' in the league by the players throughout the league? Getzlaf is no slouch at it and so-on! Also, compare, man for man between the two teams and see who has the most players over 6'-tall and over 200-lbs.! The Ducks are known throughout the league as a 'very physical' (to be polite) team. how many 'real' goal scorers does Annaheim have? Maybe 3? The Wings and Ducks are completely two different teams who play completely different styles of hockey and it's like comparing 'apples to oranges'.

That's cool!;)

Hell yeah, I remember the 'Broadstreet Bullies'! Dayum! I think, it took the NHL 30-years to get-over that reputation! :D You bet, teams have to play tough during the play-offs and I just think that the Ducks (and I am not alone in this) is a big, tough team that uses their size to intimidate, agitate and beat a team down. What I don't like about them is, when they start getting back, some of their own 'medicine', they start whining and complaining about the other team playing 'dirty'! Gimme a break! They need to shut-up and play and take their lumps like every other team. For such big guys, they sure cry alot! Sheesh... I haven't heard the Wings complaining... except for the hit on Hudler! That wasn't much of a complaint, either I've said it before... the Wings are just giving back what they've been getting. It's the play-offs. Game 4 tonight! The Vigaro is gonna hit the Mix-Master!:D

lol I never said the Ducks were more skilled than the wings. The ducks scorers are Getz, Perry, Ryan, and Selanne. Our 3rd line, (checking line) Marchant, Robby, and Christensen are not scorers but shutdown players. And damn good at it considering Dats and Hossa are all but invisible in the last 3 games. Marchant is doing a tremendous job versus Datsyuk.

Pronger is dirty. No question there. He gets boo'd everytime he touches the puck when visiting other teams arenas. He absolutely loves it and feeds off of it. However, there is no disputing he is one of the best (if not THE best) defensemen in the league and there is not a single team out there that wouldn't love him wearing their jersey. Including the wings. ;)

But here's my opinion. You are going to feel, if Detroit loses, that they got beat by a bunch of goons. That's not a fair judgement. The Wings are getting beaten by an incredible D and a netminder with superpowers. B|

Show me one Duck that cries alot.

Also don't ya think it's a bit hypocritical to criticize the Ducks for playing dirty but it's cool when your team does it?

I'll accept 3 of those. They're all thugs! I mean that sincerely. Again, I'm not alone in that thinking.;)

Real goal scorers? Hossa, Zets, Huds, Homer, Lidstrom, Draper, and etc., etc... Gee... any one of the Wings!

HA! Hossa just knows a better team when he see's it!:D Maybe, the Pens shoulda' treated him better?!:D

The truth? If, the Wings do pull this one out, hell yeah, I'll be tickeled to death. If, the Ducks win? The best team won! That's it! Yes, I've made it more than obvious that I do not like the Ducks or their way of playing but, they are in the play-offs and that does, account for something. I get the impression, you don't like the Wings... that's cool. We're just fans for different teams.

O.K., here we go! The coach for the Ducks has been complaining since the series started. The Duck who got the puck in the ribs said that Homer's elbow was a dirty hit. Homer didn't see him behind him while he was 'sandwiched between the two Ducks. All I've read about this series is how 'dirty' Detroit is playing, according to the Ducks. They've all been whining.
Hipocritical? I never said I thought it was cool when the Wings play dirty. I only said that the Wings gave-back what they were getting and they weren't going to just 'lay-down'. I don't like 'dirty' play out of anyone. I've seen it from both sides and it ain't COOL! You've pointed-out all the 'dirty' play from the Wings to point out the fact they are not 'saintly'. That's cool! Fact is... they aren't 'saintly'. I think, their record speaks for themselves. What are they supposed to do when their goalie gets a fist in the back of the head after the play has been whistled-down? Pronger and another Duck beating-up Datsyuk and Zetterberg... after the game has ended (Tuesday) I could go on and on but, I won't. The Wings can take their lumps! How much whining have they done?

They are only whining about the officiating because you know if it was Pronger who threw that elbow he would not be playing tonight. So instead of calling the real penalties we get chincy calls like the interference call against Stuart. Well I didn't see that penalty but I've heard that was borderline.

And it's not that I don't like Detroit. I just really hate divers. Leave that shit in Europe. When a hockey player comes to North America he needs to man the fuck up. Sorry dude but Franzen will forever be know to me as the guy who did his best impression of a European football player.

HEre's what really frightens me about that. Didn't Bettman come from the NBA?
