Hockey Playoffs...

Recommended Posts

I agree! After looking at the re-play, several times, everything about that hit, was legal and really, shouldn't have been called. The call was made... it's history. The series is really getting going and the Blackhawks are definately in it! They sure don't look concerned about the Red Wings, for sure.
Hossa and Datsyuk, both! I don't know what's happened to those guys. The wings got Hossa just for this very thing... the play-offs! Then again, that's the way it goes, this time of year. The 'least likely', really step-up. Noone can say that Hossa and datsyuk aren't trying.

Cam Ward kept tonight's game from being about 9-2.

The Pens are the real deal this year. Why?

New coach says go get 'em in the offensive zone boys! I was skeptical of Bylsma, but he's a hell of a coach!

Malkin looks like a man playing against little kids out there!

GO PENS!!!B|

The Canes are just overmatched. The Pens have really been on fire...especially Malkin, as you noted.

I wonder if Don Cherry still thinks that nobody will beat Detroit this year? (That was his opinion last night either before the game started or during the first intermission.)

He'll probably be proven right.

Unless, of course, the refs continue to give the Hawks 12-13 minutes of power-play per period.

Can you say... SWEEP? The way the Pens are playing, the Canes don't stand a chance. I know, the Pens want another shot at the Wings! :D Their confidence is way up there.
The Wings nee to quit letting the Blackhawks 'get to them' and avoid the penalties. Also, that series needs some refs who know what the heck they are doing!!! It's really heating-up!

You got that right! I don't know where, they got some of these refs! I've read the 'conspiracy theorists', that Bettman supposedly hates the Red Wings organization and has the refs 'really watching' the Wings! :D I just think that some of these refs just don't know their business! I think too, the refs have had a lot of pressure on them to make certain calls. Which are mostly 'petty'. I thought the reffing in the Wings - Ducks series sucked too... toward both teams.

edit to add: Wings-Pens! Go Wings!

The Hawks are toast. What a poorly played game by all of their players.
No forecheck, no hard checks, no backchecks, no offense all doomed them. They tried to goon it up and the Wings were just laughing at them.
Pitifull...

GO PENS!!

I'd like to have been a fly on the locker room wall when Quenville 'addressed' his players!:D You watch, next game will be ugly! They'll be desparate and pull-out all the stops. I just want to see the Wings win the next game and get rested-up for the Pens.

Chuck,

I think the Pens will be waiting for them....both of these series are as good as done and I can't see them going any further than the next games...but what do I know??? I almost always cheer for the underdogs but in these two series it hasn't really been very close in too many games.

The only question left is can the Pens beat the Wings this year?

You got that right! The Pens are more than waiting for the Wings... they're ready for the Wings! They want what the Wings beat them out of last year. The Wings had better bring their 'A' game, that's for sure. What i find interesting is, the Wings and Pens will be a battle of the 'second place teams'. Both teams ended the season in second place. I think too, the Pens are a 'different' team from last year and the Wings better have their ducks in a row. Fasten your seat-belt... it's going to be a rough ride!

Agreed and agreed. In addition, the Wings better have Datsyuk, Draper, and Lidström healthy. Sure at this point they can get past Chicago without them, but that's asking for a lot of hard minutes from the rest of the defence during game 5. That type of playing time and wear and tear will carryover to the finals.

For the finals, Datsyuk was instrumental in shutting Crosby down last year and will be needed this year, even if he doesn't score much.

Lidström is absolutely mandatory on the blue line to be healthy and very near 100% playing his normal high-20's nearly 30 minutes per game.

Draper is the one of the three who could maybe be out, but having his face off skills would be extremely helpful.

With out being healthy, the Wings are vulnerable.
It wouldn't hurt you to think like a fucking serial killer every once in a while - just for the sake of prevention

I think, for all the reasons you mentioned is why Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk aren't playing. Here's my wild guess on what's going on with the Wings. Babcock took a long-shot and held Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk, claiming injuries so as to have them rested for Pittsburgh. Babcock is't afraid to take a chance and with the depth of the Wings, he figured the Blackhawks out. You know how hockey teams are... they hold their cards close to their chest.

You bet! Also, that goes the other way... the Wings have been dis-mantling the Western Conference. While Draper, Lidstrom and Datsyuk are out, this gives the newer/younger Wings, some play-off experience. Plus, the Wings have Hossa and it looks as though, he's starting to perk-up. When the Wings get Datsyuk back and he perks-up (hopefully) the Wings chances get better. Damn! That's going to be a GOOD series.

Looks like, it'll be the Wings and Pens... again. After watching the Pens - Canes series, I'm wondering how the Canes got as far as they did. A sweep in the conference finals... how often has that happened?
The Wings are out, three big names... the Pens are all healthy. We may be seeing a turn-around from last year. It's anyones guess!

GO PENS!!!

Now can the Hawks just "punt" and we can get the rematch going!!!!!!!

A Wings/Pens rematch has a lot of story lines. Ty Conklin got the Pens to the playoffs last year with stellar play. Hossa went to get a Cup in motor city. Guerin has one final shot for another. Malkin and Crosby have a LOT to prove. Revenge, Redemption...it has it all!!!

The Canes had a great run, but the tank was empty by the time they met the Pens. And Cam Ward looked merely human in this series. Remember, they had a fluke final second goal to knock off the Devils. And Boston coughed up furballs like the Sharks!

Thanks to Mario for saving hockey in the 'Burgh...

The Wings have Conklin as back-up to Ozzie and of course, Hossa from the Pens. Detroit has a lot of depth and experience. As long as the Wings can maintain control of the puck by avoiding turn-overs and avoid penalties, they should do good.
The Pens have an excellent defence and a lot of speed. They may not have as many goal scorers as Detroit but, they know how to get the puck at the right time to the scorers they have. This will be the toughest series either team has experienced, yet.

I'm going to jinx the Pens right now for ya and start cheering for them ;).

This has the potential to be an excellent series.

What a knuckle-biter! Ozzie and Huet were fantastic! That game was just what I figured it would be... fast and furious. Good game!
Have you seen the play-off schedule? This Sat. & Sunday in Detroit. I don't think I've ever seen the finals have back to back games like this. More of Bettman's better ideas. How long do we have to put-up with this idiot? Is his position like that of the Pope?
