Old photos ...

Recommended Posts

I was clearing out our attic today and as usual, work was delayed (stopped) when I came across some [very] old photos... I just had to scan them in and send them off to my mates...

Anyway, 1 set was from a Parachute demo that I did XXX years ago for a company in Germany. This was just before Gulf War 1 (wow - how time flies!!). The parachute was based around a standard military round but had an inflatable rubber ring sewn into the periherial band. The canopy was packed and then the ring inflated just prior to exit. The theory being that the canopy would inflate faster and not oscilate so much - then the jumper could exit at lower altitudes ... Hence the "Safe From 60" tag like (the 60 in question was metres).

Anyway I did the first demo in southern Germany on a breezy (!!!) day and actually missed the DZ (some spotting, missing a DZ, any DZ! from 60metres[:/]) and landed on the roof of some old blokes house..... Oh how we laughed.

#1 : The sticker and badge for the project
#2 : A test dummy, with a different rig to the one that I used ... you can see the foot pump used to inflate the ring.
#3 : Me on jump run ..... that ground looks jolly close [gulp] ...CYA
#4 : REVENGE ...... That's for bombing my granny you buggers. Smashed a few tiles of some old bloke roof:)

The 2nd demo in Israel was from a C-130 side dorr and went much smoother (the landing in sand was much softer at any rate!!).
