agskyboard 0 #1 August 2, 2005 I haven't weighed myself with gear on and I'm trying to calculate my exit weight. My normal weight with shoes and walking around clothes on is roughly 200 lbs. What would be a good estimate for my exit weight....how muc does gear weigh. And when calculating wing loading, are we supposed to use under chute weight or exit weight (ie. do we include to main chute weight). Thanks
GeordieSkydiver 0 #2 August 2, 2005 Gear generally weighs 20 to 25lbs, the bigger the gear (ie student) the heavier. Exit weight is used to calculate wingloading, after all, you carry it all down to the ground...Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
agskyboard 0 #3 August 2, 2005 Yeah I understand you carry all the gear to the ground but when you are under the main...when the wing loading takes effect, the main chute weight (i would think) would not be "loaded" under the main wing. I'm just making sure my wing loading calculations are up to standard with the rest of the industry.
wmw999 2,584 #4 August 2, 2005 The weight of the main should be included in the wing loading. Otherwise there would be no point in making airplane wings light instead of heavy. davelepka 4 #5 August 2, 2005 Including or not including the weight of your main will make little difference in your WL. At your weight, the main comprimises maybe 3% of your exit weight, which isn't enough to be concerned about.
diablopilot 2 #6 August 2, 2005 Why would the main suddenly become "weightless"? It counts. The only time it wouldn't is after a cutaway when figuring your reserve wingloading, however all reserve uses do not include a cutaway.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are.
