Cazer pilot chute problem

I can't seem to get my PC to cock. I'm not sure if the problem is operator error or not. When I cock it it seems like the kill line is stretching, just not far enough to get the blue part of the line to show in the window. I've tried cocking it with the canopy in and out of the bag with the same results.

I understand it is not uncommon for the kill line to stretch after time, but this one only has one jump on it. So, what am I doing wrong and is there anyway to verify that the PC is cocked other than the inspection window.

Ya, run with the rig holding the PC bridal. If the PC inflates it is cocked. If it streamers, it is not... Or just throw it around a bit and see how it inflates... But, if you don't see the color in the window it is very likely it is not cocked all the way... That could be bad, me thinks.

I would say, have a packer try cocking it... Perhaps technique is an issue?

you can also try cocking and then pulling the line from inside the pilot chute...
what container/deploment bag have you got ? How is it attached ? Is it new ??

Can you show your rig to expirienced rigger? that's would be best IMHO...
Also you can try to pull the kill line directly (hold tension on the bridle and pull the kill line instead of PC's hackey).

Check if the kill-line is the appropiate length.

Cock it, hold the pc up-side-down by the briddle attachment point and see if the skirt (where the fabric and the mesh meet) is shorter or the same length of the apex of the PC (where the handle is attached). If the apex is shorter (or the skirt longer) then you must have your rigger change the kill-line.

When I change kill-lines I use 1000# Vectran because it does not shrink and I can leave less slack in the system.

My brand new Cazer came with the kill line about 3" too long hence it did not collapse fully.

It could be that it's just not marked in the right place. Cock it and snap it back and forth to see if it's catching air. Have an experienced instructor or rigger help you determine if it is cocked enough.

Check make sure it is hooked up correctly to the bag / canopy. I've seen kill-line pilot chutes hooked up incorreclty and they will not cock right / stay cocked. If you're unsure, find the instructions that should have come with it and/or ask a rigger. After that, pretty much what Gravity said, cock it, have some one experienced check it, to make sure its cocked and you may have to just color a bit more of the kill line, but if you're finding that you have to color A LOT more of the kill line, keep digging.

Great advice from all. I think I'm going to play it safe and get it to the loft this week and have an expert look at it.
