Really Strange Cell Phone Charging Issue

Recommended Posts

Ok, so a couple of weeks ago I noticed that my blackerry curve wasn't charging via the wall outlet charger - you have to fiddle with it in order to connect it, & as soon as you move the cord in the slightest way it disconnects... Naturally, I thought either my phone or charger is broken - BUT - when I connect it to my computer via the USB cable it charges just fine you can fiddle with it all you want & it'll stay connected solid. So than I thought that just the charger was broken, as a result I bought a new one. To my surprise, however, I'm having the same problem; I also checked the phone on my mom's charger; yu have to play with it some, but it does connect & stay connected.

How probable is it that my original wall charger broke & the replacement I just bought is also defective?... I mean, I can't figure out for the life of me why it connects & charges via a USB cable with no issue at all, but not the wall charger(s). Oh yeah, it also connects fine in the car.

Any ideas?

I had that problem with my first blackberry, a 7230 model. Not having the problem with my current one, a 8703e model. The problem I'm having with it right now is a bad track wheel (on the side), so it's about time for a new model. Been thinking about getting the Curve though.

Most likely they use different connectors (actually, same connector, different active contacts.) One contact is getting dirty/worn out.

Billy, although I'm having issues now, I would still recommend a BB curve over anything on the market, It should be noted that I've had this phone for 11 months, & in that time it has been dropped quite a few times. I'd like to sit here & think that is not the cause of my problems, but I'd probably only be lying to myself.

So, if you're thinking of upgrading, take a look at this:

Try another wall outlet. Maybe something is wrong with the one you are using.

I did - made no difference. Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

Hmmm, I had no idea that could be the case, would of never thought that 1 & the same input use different connectors. Thanks for your insight! :)
Do you think a can of pressurized air would clean it adequately? Or is it just time to fork over the cash for a new phone?

In my experience over the last few years I've come to the conclusion that cell phones, no matter how expensive are designed to last approximately 1 year...

or could it be that the connectors are from different manufactures, so are made to different tolerances... one fits, the other, sort of, sometimes?
