Ya think Luigi could land a canopy on Mars?

Recommended Posts

Let's see...

The force of gravity on Mars is only about one-third of that on earth. And Luigi jumped and landed a 69 sq. ft. canopy on earth. Therefore, it stands to reason that he could jump and land a 23 sq. ft. canopy on Mars!

What the heck is the atmosphere like?

I think Mars has about 5 feet of atmosphere or something like that. It's very very thin. Not breathable. Luigi would need a space suit and a huge pack of deployable airbags around him. :D

No. Air pressure is .8% of what it is here. He'd be going hundreds of miles an hour under a Manta. It would be like trying to land at a drop zone on top of a 100,000 foot tall mountain here on Earth.

Note that even the Mars landers use a heatshield, then a parachute, THEN rockets, and then lots of airbags to get slowed down enough. So give Luigi a few solid rocket motors and a big airbag system and he'd stand a good chance.
