shropshire 0 #1 August 21, 2009 ......I've found out that I have one . Well, I've just finished a short stint as a motorcycle courier. It's some of the hardest (intense) work that I have ever done (I'm normally an IT Consultant, which, in comparison, is a piece of piss). I worked 5 & 1/2 days a week (08:00 to 17:00 and 08:00 to 13:00 saturdays). The pay was crap (worked out less than minimum wage because I had to pay for my our petrol). I've covered 1550 city miles in 24 working days. The Sportster has been brilliant for the job too (except for the broken drive belt, which could have happened at any time) and has been a great conversation opener at a lot of the delivery stops that I visited. I've also been working with some great people (unlike a lot of the IT pukes and suits that I've come across - lot's of selfish, power crazed, self important nit-wits .... but I generalise). I'm glad that I took the job instead of being on the Benifits (which actually would have been better paid) and right chuffed with my approach to the work. Even though times are hard for a lot of folks, there is work out there if you are prepared to lower your sights and do it. Well I'm off to Switzerland this evening, to help some mates out untill the end of the Summer (not long, I know - about 6 weeks) and upon my return, if I can't secure an IT contract, I'll go back to couriering (don't fancy riding in the winter though Brrrrrr). wmw999 2,589 #2 August 21, 2009 There's something about getting to the end of a day and being able to identify something you actually did that's satisfying. Good one. One of the best jobs I ever had was making just over minimum wage in a print shop. At the end of the day, there was this stack of books, and how hard I'd worked was reflected in their size and quality. airtwardo 7 #3 August 21, 2009 WHAT you do doesn't really reflect on WHO you are...HOW you do what you're doing DOES! Cheers ~ If you choke a Smurf, what color does it turn? ~
