skymama 37 #1 September 1, 2009 My daughter lost weeks of Sims work after we ran a Windows update on the computer. Does anyone know if there is a way to retrieve this info, or save it before future updates, or will I be in the "bad mama" category forevermore? She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Jeffwxyz 0 #2 September 1, 2009 Have you tried "System Restore" to reset the system back to a prior date and configuration?
skymama 37 #3 September 1, 2009 No...I didn't know I could do that. Thanks! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Jeffwxyz 0 #4 September 1, 2009 I'm assuming that you have an XP machine. Do you know how to use system restore?
skymama 37 #5 September 1, 2009 I have Vista. I did the System Restore, it didn't work. It could be because she started a new game, but they're just files...I don't understand why they'd be completely wiped out. It was Service Pack 2 that did the damage. Now I have to figure out how to save the new file before I install Service Pack 2 again. I understand Dell is now offering XP as a "down grade" on new PC's because VISTA is soooo BAD. I work w/ Windows Server (2000,2003 & 2008), HP-UX, Linux, VMware & Solaris for a living .... and I'm seriously looking at the new Mac Book Pro for me instead of a new Dell. Microsoft clearly "jumped the shark" with VISTA ! Now to make matters worse or at least more complicated .. they scraped the NTBackup and went with a new and improved "VISTA Backup" .. good luck with that. You need to identify the folder that SIMS stores it's "user data" in ... and go from there. In the future ... get a stand alone USB drive ..... look at the "options" to see where it (SIMS) stores the data. You can install WinZip and create a "scheduled" ZIP backup to run on stuff like that. VISTA does do a better job of managing USER data ... http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/vista/vista_documents.htm http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/move-user-data-folder-to-other-partition/tutorials http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1371 Desktop or Laptop ? If you need a hand let me know and I can try and help. kevin99% of the people on this earth are sheep ... dare to be different
normiss 900 #7 September 1, 2009 My understanding of Sims v3 is that this is a rights issue. Can you right click on the Sims game and select run as administrator? Apparently the standard users do not have sufficient privileges to actually save the games. Try loggin in as administrator and running the game to see if you can save it also. Lemme know if you need "service".
