from a trike?

Just curious. If i bought a 2 person trike, and my buddy flew it, could i jump from it? Ive been doing research and some of these trikes can go upto 10 thousand feet or higher!

Has anyone heard of this? :)

Not sure either way anymore...but you know me in the past I'd have given it a try....seriously.

I'll let someone who knows to answer the legal question...but if you do try I'd get those jump #'s up there first

ya got nothing to worry about, dont worry about the big spinny thingy on the back of it or the lack of any real CG with the aircraft. just get out :P.

on a serious note, if you do decide to do it, dont make sudden moves, make sure the pilot kills the engine and the prop stops, and that you go out the closest exit. good luck get video =D

Are you asking if it's a good idea or is it legal?

Why do you think it might not be legal?

i dunno.. because i wouldnt be landing at a designated DZ..

but it seems like ti would be pretty cool!!!

on the plus side.. if/when i get married, me and my wife could go for flights!

these little ultra lights arent tooo expensive. 20 grand. a little more for some. thats not too much. like an extra vehicle note!

It's not illegal to land off a designated DZ, as long as you file a notam and give the appropriate radio calls.

As far as I know there are zero laws regulating what kind of aircraft from which one can jump.

Because Ultralights are in their own category of the FAR's. 2 Passenger ultralights are usually restricted to non-commercial operations and require one of the pilots to have an instructor rating. In fact most 2 passenger Trikes are out of the Ultralight category are over the weight limits and are in the Light Sport category now and have even further restrictions on what can be done on them.

and if i dont? ... Just curious.. i mean.. i dont think the police will bother with someone swooping in the park.. and then driving away.. by the time the even see it, most people will still be kinda shocked!.

around here? no. especially not at 10 grand. you would be able to see far enough to be able to judge if there was another aircraft or not. but around here.. planes dont fly that often

If you don't and you get hurt, hurt someone else or damage something that doesn't belong to you, no doubt it will be reported on the news. Which will make you look stupid, and by extension also make other participants in the sport look stupid.

Your jump could also cause the pilot to lose any FAA ratings they might have.

No big deal though. Rules are meant to be broken, and shit never happens when you don't want it to.

I'll give my opinion as well, beyond the ones of other folks.

> Can you jump from a trike?
Short answer: yes.
Long answer.
Yes, but it's NOT a completely good idea and it's NOT completely legal (if definitely illegal at all).
I do not know the laws in US but in Europe and in my country, but, tipically, to skydive you need a DZ (to land in) and an aircraft rated for skydivers's launch and a pilot who is rated to launch skydivers: I assume that no ultralight aircraft can go under the category "rated for skydivers's launch", furthermore an ultralight pilot (generally speaking) to carry one (tipically the ) "passenger" must be an instructor; I don't see "possible" that same instructor pilot is also a "pilot rated for skydivers's launch on an ultralight aircraft".
Now.
Cleared the legal issue (= ZERO ;) ), let's talk a little bit about technical feasibility.
Granted also that your landing field is unpopulated of humans/things/objects so having ZERO possibility of hurting/damaging anyone/anything (your skydiving insurance would cover NOTHING if happened during this ).
You can launch off a trike, yes, but you need a lot of (skydiving) experience, for a number of reasons, position (rear/front) of propeller included (...not really nice to be chopped by the propeller...), for the (high) possibility of entagling somewhere (ultralights are tipically full of cables running everywhere), for the possibility of severely making the ultralight quite unstable after skydiver's launch, and the launch itself must be very well thought/planned/tried/trained to try to avoid ANY possible problem (entangling with being the most possible); consider also that you are launching (practically speaking) yourself in (nearly) dead air, no air stream to keep you up/stable at exit time, just like a BASE jump or a balloon skydive: if you have height and exit unstable (and have experience), fine, sooner or later you'll recover your stability; if you don't have too much height available, well, if you exit unstable, well... ...I'd like to see the video :D.
Anyway.
If you will ever do the trike skydive, I want be aming the fiorst one to see the pictures/video B|
