After that sucker punch then his complete loss of control after that he should be done for the year!If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck! Rookie120 0 #8 September 4, 2009 QuoteThere should be some criminal charges here I think! I think so also. I always enjoy a good scuffle in the heat of the moment but that was over the line. Kinda like this sucker punch in hockey. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C97SPyBYeEg&feature=fvw Now I'm a Red Wings fan and should have enjoyed that but that was a cheap shot from hell and was unprovoked. Sletzer 3 #9 September 4, 2009 Just the punch, it seemed provoked. The ensuing crap on the sidelines? That looks like something that could get you kicked off a team. He obviously couldn't get his shit together and just go to the locker room.I will be kissing hands and shaking babies all afternoon. Niki1 2 #10 September 4, 2009 I'm wondering what the history of criminal prosecution is when some thing like this happens on the playing field. Sports Illustrated showed an old pictuer of Juan Marichel (sp) with a baseball bat as he was hitting somebody from 40 something years ago. A wild pitch in baseball or a blindside hit on the football field is one thing but this stuff way outside the rules should have legal consequences. Does anyone have an idea about how this has been handled in the past? Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. TrophyHusband 0 #11 September 4, 2009 i watched the game and it was possibly the worst broadcast of a footbal game i've ever seen. several times they cut away between plays and didn't cut back in until half way through the play. a few plays were missed completely, such as the two point conversion after bsu's first td. several times there was no audio or the audio was turned up late whenever the refs were taliking. the commentators did a sorry job of play by play and were even more sorry about expaining were the penalties occurred. there was also a lack of replays. it was all around a terrible job by espn. at least they caught the blount should have a lengthy suspension and anger management and coach pete should make hout keep the bench warm during the next game. Cheach 0 #12 September 4, 2009 The police said they had no intention of filing criminal charges- that they were letting the NCAA deal with it.I woke up next to a blowup doll Ash....so what do you think?
livendive 8 #13 September 4, 2009 QuoteNo it wasn't....knocked him off balance, that's all... Having been on the giving and receiving end of more than my share of punches, it's clear by the blank face that the recipient of this one was nowhere near a stadium on his way to the ground. I only saw a brief clip of the aftermath, so I'll just say that going after fans is a whole different matter than one-shotting a trash-talking competitor. In my opinion, what happened between the lines merits poor sportsmanship awards to both the players and a warm seat on the bench for a couple weeks for Blount. If what happened outside the lines was as bad as described, I'd consider that worthy of an empty locker. Blues, Dave"I AM A PROFESSIONAL EXTREME ATHLETE!" Misternatural 0 #14 September 4, 2009 it is interesting that the police take the venue into account- I have noticed that police can use a lot of their own discretion when enforcing the law. Technically it was a knockout, but I think some here think I was trying to quantify the event as though it was a real fight...... not the case.Beware of the collateralizing and monetization of your desires. AggieDave 6 #15 September 4, 2009 QuoteThere should be some criminal charges here I think! I agree. Someone who acts like that shouldn't have the privilege of playing again this year (at a minimum), they should also face charges. In Texas assault against a sports participant (including refs) is a Class B Misdemeanor (same level of offense as a DWI). Hopefully there is something similar where this occurred and warrants are issued.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." JohnMitchell 16 #17 September 4, 2009 Blount's a sucker punch thug in my book. Hout tapped him on the shoulder and talked a little trash. Then the coach tried to break it up. Blount saw Hout distracted and took a cheap shot. I thing his season should be over.
AggieDave 6 #18 September 4, 2009 You're thinking of acts of Family Violence. In that case the state can pursue charges even when the victim doesn't care to. That is to help protect those who are so battered that they are fearful of retribution or are so entrapped that they can't bare to think of escape. Although, this was the breach of the peace and there are other charges that would also cover the aggressor's action. This is, of course, a theoretical conversation since this didn't happen in Texas and I have no idea what their state laws are. Although typically laws are fairly similar between states.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

Blues, Dave when blount went after the fan, there was a uniformed officer (i'm not sure if it was police or security) in his path. from the angle I saw last night, it appeared he (inadvertently) clotheslined the officer. the video i found here is from a different angle, but its clear he made contact with the officer. Misternatural 0 #21 September 4, 2009 I think If I said medically it was a knockout people would have been less likely to think I was scoring a fight- which I was not. Sports can be a strange brew sometimes, players are supposed to perform in a box of carefully controlled violence and aggression, especially in football...I honestly don't know how people do it. It is kind of like telling someone to drink as much as they want- just don't get drunk. I don't think people as animals are psychologically designed to perform that way, it is really a contradiction- violent reactions are a natural and necessary animal instinct used for survival. and in today's civilization every player must perform to this unrealistic high standard of conduct with cameras and trash talk and pressure all the time...I know I could never be a pro athlete under those circumstances. I know that to follow the rules and play fair is called good sportsmanship but I look around and I see a pretty dirty world in general. But I am expected to always follow the rules and keep my cool? Fuck that. The sports arena is an overly idealized artificially controlled environment with extremely high professional expectations- The sports fan gets to act like a complete asshole most of the time every day in their life but the player has to be perfect all the time??...I am amazed more fights don't break out on the playing field. You seem like a person that strives for excellence in your conduct in both word and deed and you have a lot of respect and admiration as a result-Kudos!
