COOPSTER 0 #1 July 17, 2005 NEW TO THE SPORT AND LOVING EVERY SECOND. I AM ABOUT TO BE RELEASED TO SOLO STATUS IN A WEEK OR SO. I ORDERED A NEW RIG I KNOW IT SOUNDS SILLY FOR THE FIRST RIG BUT MADE ME FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE. MY QUESTION IS THIS I ORDERED A NEW VECTOR 3 WITH 21 INCH RISERS AND MINIS WITH TYPE 17 WEBING AMONG OTHER OPTIONS. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND TALKING TO MANY PROS I GUESS THIS WAS THE ONLY THING I WENT BACK AND FORTH ON. MY HEIGHT IS 5'10" WEIGHT IS 180 WITH OUT GEAR. I WILL NOT JUMP THIS RIG UNTIL CLEARED BY MY JUMP MASTER BUT LOOKS LIKE IT WONT BE TO FAR AWAY. ANY OPINIONS ON THE RISERS AND MINIS IN COMPARISON TO LARGE RING WITH TYPE 8 WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU
GravityGirl 0 #2 July 17, 2005 For rigs with 190s and smaller, it is common practice to have mini risers, unless there is some substantial wing loading going on. From a resale perspective, the minis would be a good choice. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
riggerrob 643 #3 July 18, 2005 First off, please disable your caps-lock key. Typing in all capitals is considered shouting and rude. Secondly, mini-risers will work just fine at your weight. Most of the negative hype is related to mini-risers built before the 1993 PIA standard or the 1998 standard published by the Relative Workshop.

GravityGirl 0 #6 July 18, 2005 I tend to take a better look at jumpers over 220 lbs. body weight. Then I look at each component of their gear and determine the first likely failure point. It's usually not the risers. My number one concern is the reserve and reserve risers. The harness/container system. The main and main risers are next on the list. Second only because failure here offers a second chance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
tr027 0 #7 July 18, 2005 IMO, No problem. You should be just fine. The bigger risers and rings can handle more weight and have more leverage for cutaways, but I haven't heard of anybody regretting using the smaller stuff, so as long as you maintain it properly, should be no problems."The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it.
