ripcord4 0 #1 July 14, 2005 Will a PD Spectre 210 - 230 fit in a GQ Security System III? I believe it will but would like to hear it from an expert. (I can't wait to hear the grief I'll get for this! LOL)
mjosparky 4 #2 July 14, 2005 I doubt there are any "experts" in the GQ Security System still alive. lol. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
Hooknswoop 19 #3 July 14, 2005 QuoteGQ Security System III A what? Seriously, get a modern container, the increase in safety is worth it. Derek
headoverheels 334 #4 July 14, 2005 Maybe, but a slightly larger gearbag would also hold your jumpsuit and logbook. I'm sure Ray Ferrell at actionair.com could tell you. The ZP Spectre packs up about a size larger than the F111 canopies contemporary to the System.
tombuch 0 #5 July 14, 2005 Umm, I think it's time for a new rig. I doubt there are any charts that will match anything to a GQ Security anything. If you insist on keeping the rig, then your best bet is to actually pack the canopy and see if it fits first hand. GQ Security Systems were fine rigs 'back in the day, but seriously, I suggest that you replace it with a modern rig. You will find contemporary rigs are safer and more comfortable.Tom Buchanan Instructor Emeritus Comm Pilot MSEL,G Author: JUMP! bwilling 0 #6 July 15, 2005 No grief here... but honestly, that rig's gotta be 25 years old! I have some old Parachutist magazines advertising the GQ Security stuff (the X2-10 canopies) from 1982~!!! yikes! I have a rule... I don't jump anything older than my youngest child! riggerrob 643 #7 July 15, 2005 GQ Security's factory in San Leandro, California closed in 1984 = 21 years ago. GQ Defense - the parent company in Britain - says not to pack any of hteir gear more than 13 years old. MJO Sparky, I used to repack a lot of Security 150/250/350 pilot emergency parachutes, but "my give a damn is busted."
sdctlc 0 #8 July 15, 2005 Shit, that is a classic.. My first rig was a Security set up. Security container, Unit main and round reserve (got caught up in the acid mesh crap) All I can say is come to the light of modren equiptment! My container (cant remember the exact model) was the one that had the PC tucked in between my back and the contaner. Pouch on the back pad. Had a lead from the top of the PC that had a tuck tab that attched to the MLW. Kinda had to pull this way then pull that way to get the PC out. Let a guy borrow it once and he promptly had a reserve ride, go figure it worked for me... I have to say the Javelin I bought after that rig was like going to a BMW from a pinto Scott C."He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
Faicon9493 141 #9 July 15, 2005 Way back in the day, I had a GQ Security Alpha System. It was one of most comfortable H/C systems that I ever owned. It had a SAC round reserve and I sold it right before the acid mesh problem came up.
