Which is worse?

Recommended Posts

So in an attempt to get somewhat healthier I've stopped drinking coffee. I used to drink 2 or 3 cups a day with a disgusting amount of sugar in each cup. However, I've realized that since I've stopped drinking the coffee I've subconsciously started drinking 4 or 5 cans of Coke a day to substitute the caffeine.

So which is worse? 4 or 5 cans of Coke a day, or 2 or 3 cups of coffee with an obscene amount of sugar in each one?

4 or 5 cans of coke = roughly 120 - 150 mg of caffeine, total.

A cup of coffee can have anywhere from 65 mg to 180 mg (per cup) of caffeine depending on how it is prepared.

For a more exact answer, please define a "disgusting amount of sugar" ... mind you, there are 3 tablespoons of sugar in one can of coke.

Dare I say you've taken a turn for the worse by switching to coca cola?

Go back to coffee. Or switch to diet coke.

However ... caffeine minimizes hunger pains and encourages skipping meals ... can make you more prone to suffer from anxiety... and an assortment of other things.

That being said - Do what REALLY makes you happy. You only live once. (think about this one)

High Fructose Corn Syrup is, IMHO, worse than refined sugar.

You can try what I've been doing lately: Cut back on the sugar a little at a time. A few months ago my mug got 2 heaping teaspoons. Now I'm down to 2 level teaspoons & I think I'm ready to go to 1 heaping, then I can cut it back even more.

I've never liked coffee. I do however, drink obscene amounts of Mountain Dew in the mornings, as much as 1 liter. :S I know how much sugar is in that shit, but here I am, still within my target weight of 150 lbs at 5'-6" tall.

I really do need to cut back though. My dad has adult onset diabetes, because he had been popping hard candies every day for 40+ years.

They got it right, drink lots of water. Water hydrates the brain and helps you stay alert. Water will also lessen food cravings. The body reacts the same way with hunger or thirst, but we perceive both as hunger and so we eat, when said body was probably thirsty, not hungry.

Also, have you tried splenda? I know, blah, blah, splenda will kill us, right? Wrong. As long as you consume it in moderate amounts you will be fine. Put like two or three packets of splenda in your coffee, then have the rest be sugar...baby steps....

One week I cut out all added sugar from my diet and felt so much better. I bet you anything you will be able to tell the difference. Sorry, Im kind of a health nut and start nerding out on questions like this:P

Coffee actually has some positive benefits. I've never heard of Coke being good for anything except for getting build-up off toilets and car batteries. It'll do that to your stomach too. :P

If you're just concerned about sugar, slowly cut back! Have you tried Truvia? It's a natural sweetner that doesn't have the calories of sugar. I've switched to that instead of using sweetners and enjoy it in my coffee.

I used to have that problem. I would drink 5-6 cups of coffee a day and have soda as well. I cut out the soda and reduced my coffee to one travel mug for my morning commute. The rest of the day I drink tea. It'll help with the caffeine withdrawal but is a lot better for you. I'd say 2-3 cups of coffee isn't bad. Try natural sweeteners like Agave nectar. Cut out the soda. Then reduce the coffee a bit and use natural sweeteners. Drink tea during the day. Just do it all in stages.
