ikon 0 #1 October 2, 2009 I want to get some indoor plants to spruce up the house and help clean the air so I start browsing the internets for suggestions on good low maintenance indoor plants only to discover .....Holy Shit!! Plants are expensive Anyone know how to get some good free/cheap plants? Besides stealing them or getting them from a friend.

warpedskydiver 0 #3 October 2, 2009 Clone them from other people plants. All you need is a cutting and some rooting hormone. You can also go to see what the local shops have that are discounted and nurse them back to health. Start from seeds if you can. Dig up some outdoor plants and transfer them indoors. Snowwhite 0 #6 October 2, 2009 Our local Lowes has a discount section at the back, I buy a lot of cheapies that way, and with a little time and healthy care, I get some great plants. Not every outdoor plant is suitable for indoor use, but some that work out ok are azaleas, some pines (think Bonsai) and orchids. Another really good suggestion is to check with your local funeral homes, NO JOKE! They throw away tons of plants on a daily basis. If you want other suggestions, tell me where you live, and I'll check the Ag list for your zone, and give you some more ideas.skydiveTaylorville.org freefallbeth@yahoo.com
DFWAJG 4 #7 October 3, 2009 Avoid Home Depot. The plants are always loaded with aphids. Go to a nursery for the healthiest plants, or like someone else suggested, cuttings are easy.

Agreed no Home Depot. They die fast too if you are not on top of them daily until they get aclimated to you home. You create life, life does not create you.
