NickDG 23 #26 October 15, 2009 Julia an I have dinner every night with nothing else going on besides each other. I look forward to it all day. Doesn't everyone do that? NickD
NWFlyer 2 #27 October 15, 2009 If it's just me, sometimes, or I'll read at the table (a lot depends on how messy the food is!). If my SO is over or I have family or others visiting ... at the table. Growing up dinner was almost always at the kitchen table (dining room was reserved for special occasions). As we got older and would sometimes be on our own schedules, sometimes we'd eat alone in front of the TV, but we maintained a pretty good track record of dinner with the whole family. Heck, we even did breakfast together - well, Mom worked later so she'd sleep in, but Dad would make sure that my brother and I were up and getting breakfast. He'd work on his newspaper and the bro and I would read whatever we were reading, but we were at least together. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
JENNR8R 0 #28 October 15, 2009 I live alone and don't watch television at all. When I'm at someone else's house, and they have the television on for background noise, it really annoys me.What do you call a beautiful, sunny day that comes after two cloudy, rainy ones? -- Monday. pontiacgtp00 0 #30 October 16, 2009 Yeah we don't eat as a family too often since we all work crazy shifts, but when we do the TV is always on in the background. The sound of people eating just annoys me.
NickDG 23 #31 October 16, 2009 Actually I do all of the cooking. Like a lot of otherwise successful and very busy woman, Julia she can't cook a lick. And when she does it's more like a laboratory experiment than anything else. When I'm watching a football game and hear, "It's almost ready," I start praying for a heart attack, earthquake, or something else equally dinner avoiding! I can forgive her though, after all, in the meantime she went to Mars with Spirit & Opportunity, landed with Phoenix on the Martian Pole, and now oversees all the radio telescope arrays on planet Earth. But we now get phone calls in the middle of the night from university professors in Russia who, besides not being able to figure out timezones, after I ask, "Aren't we still at war with you guys," hang up abruptly realizing they got the wrong part of the family. If ET ever calls I'll know it, albeit second hand, but still long before any of you do. And if they do, I more than expect they'll ask for Airtwardo. And yes, that makes me look like a loser - except in the kitchen. And, oh yeah, except in the bedroom too. . . ! NickD
Beerlight 0 #32 October 16, 2009 I love the people that say, "I don't watch much tv"....lol I keep it on mostly in the background, but sometimes we kick it on the couch and eat.....why not!
LisaH 0 #33 October 16, 2009 I cook a lot, but am usually home alone. So I share with the neighbors and take my plate to whatever room I'm doing something in. TV is always on with ESPN in the background.Be yourself! MooOOooOoo
robskydiv 0 #34 October 16, 2009 We all sit at the table and eat in the dining room. TV stays on and I'll switch seats with one of the kids if one of their shows is on. But if the game is on like right now, (Go Bearcats!) I'll sit in that seat. Sometimes, we turn if off though... And Andrea, do you eat dinner with the tv on or off?
