Jewels 0 #1 October 19, 2009 Just got my new Google Voice number and I'm excited! I hope it lives up to my expectations. But, basically, the concept is that your Google Voice phone number will reach you, simultaneously, at more than one place. I've set it up so my phone will ring at home and on my cell phone at the same time. I could also add a work number or whatever other phone numbers I wanted to use. It will supposedly transcribe the texts of any voice mail messages and email them to me as well. I love technology (when it works)! Some of those DD calls might be quite a challenge for it to transcribe."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. Jewels 0 #3 October 19, 2009 Yeah, but no one will ever know if the transcription is wrong! I mean, it's a DD!TPM Sister #
Icon134 0 #4 October 19, 2009 I got it a couple of months ago... I like the idea... and I think I like google voice better then Youmail (which I'm also using...) I do only have it currently forward to one phone and actually I'm hoping that I can use it if I ever move in the sense that I can set it up with a local phone number for that area... Icon134 0 #6 October 19, 2009 QuoteHas it worked well for you so far, or have you used it that much?I think I've recieved about 5 calls through my google voice number... the transcription is good but certainly could be better and probably will improved with time... I do like that it sends me a text message with the message transcription... otherwise I haven't tried out a whole lot of the other features yet (such as recording in process calls, dialing multiple numbers, etc...) I do like the voicemail interface as it reminds me of my gmail account... (I signed up when I heard about it on a how stuff works podcast figured I'd give it a try...) I have 2 phone numbers (cell and work) I can't access google voice from work (due to firewalls) so it doesn't work so well there... I am hoping that sooner or later I can get a google voice interface to access my account from a cell phone or similar device. ScottLivin' on the Edge... sleeping with my rigger's wife... Jewels 0 #7 October 19, 2009 Good to know! I didn't realize that firewalls would be a problem but that makes sense. I'm using it primarily for my mother, who is ill. This way, she can dial one phone number and get me wherever I am. The messaging features you're talking about sound good for my purposes, too.TPM Sister #
