Minor illness ... would you rather?

Recommended Posts

It's cold and flu season ... which of these would you prefer? As I enter week #2 of an annoying cold, I'm kind of leaning towards #1, but maybe I'm just forgetting how bad it feels to really get your ass kicked by a cold or flu.:S:D

That's a tough one! I voted #1 primarily because I would have 2 days out of the gym, instead of 2 weeks of crap work outs :D Get it done and over with quick! Kind of like ripping off a band-aid.

instead of 2 weeks of crap work outs

Ding ding ding! That's what's most frustrating to me... since I got sick last Wednesday afternoon, I've had three crap workouts with my trainer and haven't worked out on my own at all. The workouts with my trainer are maintenance-only; I'm definitely not making any forward progress at this point (and in fact my cardiovascular fitness feels like it did 10 months ago when I started, even though I know it's only temporary).

I would like to say 2-3days but I dont have time to be sick with an 8yr old. I cant even go use the bathroom for a minute without him knocking on the door or asking for something he knows he can't have. Heaven forbid i try to take a nap in the middle of the day...

Last time I was sick was 6 years ago. I believe I got the flu. Haven't been that sick in 40 years! Anyway, after 10 or 11 days of feeling like hammered shit things got really fun when the sinus infection set in. In 2 days I was 90% deaf & longing to feel like I did at day-9; simply hammered shit. Now, not only could I not eat, or sleep, & my whole body ached, now I had a POUNDING head, can't breathe, & can't hear on top of it! That's when I finally decided to see a doctor. :$ It was another week before I felt well enough to go back to work, & the only reason I did was because the boss was begging me in spite of my insisting I'd be dangerous because I still can't hear.

I show up at work & the first thing the boss says is, "HOLY SHIT! How much weight did you loose? You look like shit!" (I went from 195 to 165 in 3 weeks!) Then he was amazed at how loud he had to be in order for me to hear him (guess he didn't believe I was still nearly totally deaf). :S

Given the choice between 2-weeks of feeling "off" or 3-days or "hammered shit" I'll choose 3-days, thank you.

yep, had a hint of a cold just on the horizon waiting to get me for a week but i put the vit C, soup, and rest to it...fought it off..... but still used the cold credits to get out of three annoying social situations last week. Haha:ph34r:

Interesting question but I find when I get a bad cold, I can be completely miserable/ incapacitated for one or two days AND feel kind of crappy for a couple of weeks after that. Luckily, that doesn't happen to me all that often- maybe once every few years? Usually its the annoying cold/ runny nose/ allergies that hangs around for a few weeks, but I can still function.

As far as the flu- I am usually the one who doesn't get it and comes into work every day covering for everyone else who does. It was the same when I was a kid- classroom would be almost empty with the other kids out sick, but I was always there.

I am one of those "socially irresponsible public health hazards" who opts out of the flu shot every year so hopefully there is enough to go around for the people who really need it.

i'm recovering from the swine flu. the body aches sucked. today was the first day i've exercised since the 10th. i still don't fell even close to 100%. there was one day i didn't even get out of bed. fortunately my wife was off work that day. the next day i would have stayed in bed too, but with three kids to look after, it just wasn't an option. the bummer is that i have a triathlon this saturday and last week was supposed to be my most intense training week, so i feel your pain with reguard to the workouts. this week i'm just doing light workouts just to guage where i'm at. i'm afraid to do anything intense and have a relapse. at this point i'm just hoping to be healthy enough to race this weekend, my time goal went out the window.

I just got over a long bout with pneumonia, about 7 weeks. I would have preferred to get over the cold that started the whole thing, but being a stay-at-home dad for two little girls with the nearest relatives being a two hour drive away and a wife that works, I didn't have much opportunity to rest. I went through three different courses of prescription meds before finally kicking the shit out of my body. Also I realized I need more rest at 42 than I did at 22. [:/]
