JohnRich 4 #1 October 22, 2009 The Dutch are experimenting with "ladder mills" consisting of ram-air kites to harness the wind in order to drive a generator and produce electricity. http://smarteconomy.typepad.com/smart_economy/2008/08/laddermill-durc.html http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory:Wind:Ladder_Mills And these guys plan to take the concept up into the jet stream: http://green.venturebeat.com/2008/08/23/makani-power-takes-in-5m-for-high-altitude-wind-energy/ Keep your old parachutes handy - you may be able to use them some day to power your home! captain1976 0 #5 October 23, 2009 Right, can you imagine a bunch of canopies tangled together? How about turbulence and canopy collapses associated with storms and heavy rain. And how about the physical labor involved with putting them up, taking them down not to mention the deteriorating effects of sun exposure. Sounds like it would take more energy to maintain them then the energy you would save. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
