Baksteen 84 #4 October 22, 2009 Another painful fact that comes to mind is that our 'elite athletes' train full-time to become good at one skill exclusively, perhaps at the expense of many others - while for the people cited in the example any extrordinary feat they accomplish were all in a day's work... LouDiamond 1 #6 October 22, 2009 Quote* Roman legions completed more than one-and-a-half marathons a day carrying more than half their body weight in equipment. That hasn't changed really. It is quite common in some select military units,I've done this on more than one occasion in my military career. There is actually a study out there that has compared the weights the average foot soldier has carried over the centuries and while we may have far better equipment today, the weight has remained very consistent incredibly. What that article doesn't address is that humans have also become exponentially smarter than say the Neanderthals and early humans it references as being stronger than modern man. There is no question we have become a sedentary society in the USA and in the world compared to our planets forefathers but there are many more areas where we are better off."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING

They probably didn't live much longer than 30-35 years. If I need to cmplete 1 & 1/2 marathons in a day I'll get in my truck, while carrying 10 times my body weight plus my gear. shah269 0 #8 October 22, 2009 We were larger, then got shorter in the 1400-1800 and then we got tall again correct? Because I've been in some older homes and it's simply amazing how short people once were. Especially here in the North East. But still, you have to admit it would be nice if schools included say 1 hour of physical activity per day?Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. AviationTD 0 #10 October 22, 2009 It doesn't matter if this book is very poorly researched and documented. If you look at underlying story behind this, this could be true. Back then, they don't have the technology like we do today. They do everything by hand. In general sense, they are stronger than we do. We, today's world, are lazy as heck by using the technology to get us around: Elevator, Cars, Microwave, and so on......just like the Office Max's TV commerical (Easy Button). We press buttons and we are done. That's how lazy we are.
