Probably a "bad day" at work

Recommended Posts

Well, what do you expect?

Chop their pay, increase their workload, and make it impossible to get into the cockpit from the passenger cabin.

Crew rest rules are a joke. This was only a matter of time. It's a good thing they woke up before running out of fuel.

Years ago, a light aircraft departed Nevada in the middle of the night. It flew West towards Northern CA. The pilots fell asleep, overshot the coast, and didn't wake up and call in until quite aways over the Pacific. They turned around but didn't have the fuel to make it back and went down in the water. The Coast Guard was dispatched but never found anything. [:/] So, yes, it can happen.

Flight Physiology has long shown that catnaps in the cockpit, one crewmember at a time, of course, is beneficial to safety, improving alertness during the more critical phase of flight, descent and landing. Unfortunately, it's prohibited because it would look bad to condone pilots sleeping on the job. Same reasoning applies in the FAA to air traffic controllers on their breaks. You may do any legal thing you want during your break time, except try to catch a quick nap to cure the fatigue of constantly changing shifts.

The routine in a high altitude, cruising airliner cockpit is amazingly dull. I'm amazed more of this doesn't happen.

Ask Delta about the 767 crew that landed on 27R at ATL this week. You know the 27R that was only about 100 feet right of 27L - its also called a taxiway. :D

Ladies and gentlemen this is the captain speaking. I’m sorry but due to unforeseen postwhoring related reasons we over shot the destination by 150mi but we will perform a go-around and get you down on the ground ASAP.

You are all welcome to our good bye party that will be held in the FAA lobby next Thursday. Bring presents that we can sell beacuse we'll need the money.....
