steveorino 7 #1 November 1, 2009 My hosting company sucks ... terrible service. I'm trying to switch to another one, but I must have an authorization code from my old host to do so. They will not answer their phone (they refer to their website) and there you can only submit a ticket (which they never respond to) Any other way to get this code and switch host? steveOrino

Go to your registrar and change the name servers to the new host's name servers. If your old hosting company registered your domain name for you, then that become a bit more difficult because they may have listed themselves as the technical contact. Cornholio 0 #3 November 2, 2009 I've never heard it done this way when moving domains/hosts. Usually the new host will send either the technical contact or the administrative contact an email asking for authorization to move. If your email is not listed as one of those, then go to the registrar and have it changed. I have all my domains set to "anonymous" mode so the contact info is bogus. But if I want to change domains/hosts I just have to unhide my info so I can reply to the emails. Butthead: Whoa! Burritos for breakfast! Beavis: Yeah! Yeah! steveorino 7 #4 November 2, 2009 They do have themselves listed as technical contact. And they have yet to respond to me via phone or email What are my options? steveOrino
steveorino 7 #5 November 2, 2009 I was switching to "godaddy" and they said i needed to get the authorization code. Either way ... them ... me ... my old host company is not replying. steveOrino
Beachbum 0 #6 November 2, 2009 You only need the auth code if you want the new hosting company to move the site for you. If you know how to use an FTP program (I have FileZilla) to move your files to the new server, MIH is right ... just move the files, then log into your registrar and change the nameserver dns ... done.As long as you are happy with yourself ... who cares what the rest of the world thinks? steveorino 7 #7 November 2, 2009 I can move files easily enough. Can I change the nameserver dns when I am not the technical contact? steveOrino
