JohnMitchell 16 #5 November 10, 2009 Quote What is this PBR you speak of? Pig Barn Runoff? Very close, Pabst Blue Ribbon, a very . . . economical brand of beer in the U.S. It's a big hit in the punk rock/alternative scene around here, when you want a good cheap drunk. Some of our favorite bars have $1 PBR nights.
kkeenan 14 #6 November 10, 2009 I've always wondered, how much does it cost for a license to own a television in the UK ? Do you have to have a license for each one in your home ? Do the authorities really use detectors to seek out un-licensed sets ? I think that half of the U. S. would break down in riots at the mere mention of that concept here. The detector van thing was mostly a ploy to frighten people into paying. A few of the vans that they did have, contained some crude DF kit that never worked, the rest contained an army of clipboard wielding beurocrats with the afore mentioned list. Like most government initiatives, it's 99.9% bullshit.
MikeJD 0 #8 November 10, 2009 You don't need a licence to own a TV set, only to watch it. Just renewed mine. Yeah, it's £142.50, and worth every penny. Bwaahhahhhhaaahaa! There are concessions, though - I think if you can prove you're both blind and deaf then they discount it by 50p or something. And if you have a black and white set then it's £48. I wonder when was the last time they sold a black and white licence! Don't know why we ever believed that stuff about detector vans everywhere - they would have been prohibitively expensive, surely. I think their assumption now is that it's so unusual for someone not to have a TV that any unlicensed address is suspect. That about sums up the 'Big Brother' tone of their advertising!
