NickDG 23 #26 October 24, 2009 We used to throw all our C-rats into one steel helmet over a fire with a half bottle of Tabasco and then right at the end pour in all that canned cheese. That was living large. I suppose you can't cook in a modern Kevlar helmet . . . NickD
warpedskydiver 0 #27 October 24, 2009 Nope, but that was all my steel pot was good for. Heck we never wore them in the field. Except when around some anal jr officer.

Thats exactly what they want you to do. Any money they spend on this promo will be paid back ten fold. Thats good advertising. Remember what happened a couple of years ago at Walter Reed Army hospital and all the bigs wigs getting their photo ops visiting the amputee's in the state of the art facility returning from Iraq. The Washington Post blew the lid on that BS with the pics and story of the Med Hold unit across the street. How bad was it? Bad enough that a couple of generals lost there jobs. After that fire got put out Our wounded vets, and their families are still falling thru the cracks, and you all are being distracted by PR (propaganda)BS.One Jump Wonder
warpedskydiver 0 #32 October 24, 2009 Regardless of what you think the motive is, it is still a nice gesture. I can think of a few Veterans that could use a free meal. The homeless and jobless are usually too proud to go to a soup kitchen or the various outreach centers. If this gets them to come in for a free, hot, nutritious meal that gets them through the night while they sleep in the open freezing, it is worth it. Niki1 2 #34 October 24, 2009 Quote I can just see the Applebee's list of select entrees for vets: Chipped Beef on Toast Chili Mac Tuna Noodle Bake Hamburger Steak Spaghetti and Meat Sauce Military mainstays when I was in. I don't know why they called "Chipped Beef on Toast" Shit - A -Shingle. I happened to like it. Usually needed to put some (a lot of) pepper on it.Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done. theonlyski 8 #42 November 11, 2009 Most of my section and I were in Ruby Tuesdays yesterday for lunch. We normally go somewhere for lunch when one (in this case two) of our guys is/are leaving the unit. We hand out plaques and thanks for their hard work. So there was 13 of us sitting there, in uniform, eating and joking with these 2 guys who are leaving and we may never run into down the road. A guy we noticed was looking at us a bit more than usual, walked up after he finished his lunch, handed our boss a $100 bill and said thank you for the service, enjoy your lunch. Its a very odd feeling, we're very thankfull that there are still those who support our troops in a time when the GWOT isnt the prettiest thing on the news and the media is only showing what they want you to see. The look at our table when we all realized what happened... priceless. Nobody knew what to do or say, we just sat there in shock. None of us thought anything like this would happen, nor did we think we deserved it, but the guy had already driven off before it clicked what just happened."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
