Reserves as Mains

Recommended Posts

I'd like any opinion on using a reserve canopy for a main...example - All my jumps were under a Raven IV for a main and a 24' round rsv (that I never had to use...thank God!). I am 6'4"/230lbs, and was happy with the Raven...even though I would like to have a brand-spankin'-new ZP, I noticed in the classifieds that you can get a 0-2 jump rsv for a considerably lower price than say, a 250 jump PD of the square footage. Is there a down-side to using a rsv for a main? Thanks in advance for any feedback!

There are only a few mains out there with a main bridle attachment point sewn in. Raven I-IV and I think some of GlidePath/FlightConcepts older reserves have them. With out it you have to go chase your main d-bag every jump since it can't attach to your canopy. ;)

Buying a 200+ jump F111 main canopy should be dirt cheap since not too many people want them anymore. Picking up something like a used Sabre with a couple of hundred jumps and putting a reline on it is a great idea since ZP can last 2000+ jumps usually and with a lineset its good for about 500-700 jumps before it needs more maintence (outside patches) and old used Sabres are very cheap.

I have a Ravan IV all red with white center cell. brand new never assembled on any rig, never jumped. can be used as a main or reserve (as its never been jumped) I was going to use it as reserve in my new Racer, but decided it was too big for me and went down as size on my reseve. I'm asking $600.00 plus shipping for it.
