not that it matters in the BCS games but do some stats on Clemson and CJ Spiller, 19 carries for 48 yards

the ACC team finally played a team that has an SEC defense and the motivation to win

USC 34 Clemson 17, Clemson was favored by 3

Yep, I saw part of that game and the speed of SC's Defense really gave Clemson fits. To his credit, Spiller did take a kick back for a TD. That's about all he can do against SEC teams....

He did not have a very good game last weekend against UVa either. As much as I like him I also think he has blown his chances the last two weeks. Probably a long shot even before that.

I can't believe that Auburn couldn't hold Bama!!!! How can you start the 1st quarter so good and then give it away in the end. Auburn's defense had the push and should've held them.

They started the game real well because they ran a couple of plays that Alabama hadn't seen all year, AFAIK. A wide receiver did a reverse and end around for a 67 yard rushing TD, and then Auburn did an on-sides kick to try and get the ball back. By then, Alabama was on their heels trying to catch up to the speed of the game plan. Auburn was going no-huddle, IIRC.

Now that 2nd drive should have ended in an interception by Alabama but the dumb ass referees called a penalty for a false start on Auburn, and then gave the guy who intercepted the pass an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for tossing the ball when he realized his play wasn't going to count, and it gave Auburn first and goal. >:(

After that, Alabama's Defense played lights-out pretty much the rest of the way, except for a quick strike long pass play in the 3rd quarter.

Now Alabama's offense did sputter somewhat, especially the running game, because Auburn had one goal in mind - key on Mark Ingram and stack the box against the run.

Sure, that's fine and dandy, but Alabama had too many weapons in the passing game and a smart QB, and they put together a great drive at the end.

And besides, I'm glad Ingram had a bad game. I didn't want him to win the Heisman trophy. Have you seen the track record of Heisman trophy winning players' teams in the bowl or national championship games lately? They're 1-7 in the last 8 years I think.

Let Colt McCoy of Texas have it. He's a senior. Then I won't mind at all seeing the Heisman bowl record go to 1-8.

Oh did you see the news about Carlos Dunlap? He's the Gators' star defensive end. He was arrested this morning for DUI. He was also last year's SEC championship game MVP. Their best pass rusher too. Whoa... I know Florida's defense is one of the deepest as far as talent goes, and so is Alabama's. But as far as I'm concerned, if Carlos is suspended for this Saturday's SEC title game, Florida won't be affected too badly not having him in the game. The distractions surrounding his arrest might mess some of the players up in the head though, but if they're smart, they'll get to business on the field.

When Alabama lost Don'ta Hightower, their 2nd best LB to a knee injury in the Arkansas game way back in September, Alabama played at Kentucky the next game and allowed 20 points as some backup LBs got some playing time. After that, it was pretty much business as usual for one of the nation's two best defenses.

I still expect Florida to bring their "A" game, but this distraction just might help our game a little bit. McElroy has more passing yards than Tebow and has been sacked less than half as many times as Tebow has this year, and Alabama is loaded at wide receiver.

Still, I expect this game to be a low-scoring affair, because after all, both teams HAVE the top two defenses in the nation. It's going to be a doozy!

I was just telling some friends of mine that the SEC Championship will be more intense then the BCS itself. I'm from FL and a Gator fan and I don't think I've been this nervous in a long time. Crimson Tide are a better team this year and don't think they plan on choking in the 4th quarter like they did last year against Florida.

Yeah, I'm hoping the Gators players don't combine their rout of FSU and the near loss by Bama to Auburn into a false sense of invincibility. Alabama's brush with Auburn may well have energized them even more than they were before. Either way this game is going to make the BCS championship game a little anticlimactic. (....to us SEC fans, anyway. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that I don't think Texas is playing at the same level as Alabama or Florida even though they have been winning with some big scores.) We'll see!.......but I won't be betting any money either way.

I'm still getting a kick out of seeing Cincinnati on the rise. I went there 95-99 and during that time even homecoming only filled half the stadium. I think it would be a joke for them to play for the championship considering their schedule, but if Coach Kelly stays around and they have a few more 10+ win seasons and those seasons include some tougher competitors they may just get there.

I think they have a very good team this year. But the reality is that money drives a lot of this, and they simply don't generate it. In last year's Orange Bowl, they were still trying to sell tickets in Cincinnati December 31st. And the game's tv share was lousy too. It takes a long time to create a fan base willing ot spend big bucks in mass numbers. It requires a football tradition, and UC doesn't have one. Yet.

They also were fed the hog and the same thing will happen this year if they play a real team. I think Pitt is going to beat them. If UC beats Pitt they will earn a lot more respect but there is no way a team that let's Illinois score 30 pts on them at home could ever compete in a National Championship game. UC is not big enough or fast enough on D!

I agree with Muff on Texas.... I don't think they have the gas to go against the SEC. As a Gator, I'm worried sick about Bama. They are stronger than last year but I think that Spikes, Hernandez, Tebow, Cooper and the rest of the offense are ready to penatrate. I'm waiting for Major Wright to "level" another receiver this year. Ever since his hit on Manny Johnson, the fans are asking for another one to put in the books. Here's a video I found from the BCS last year.

Ok... they probably do not have the gas to hang with Bama or Florida but this broad statement of the "SEC". Come on..... the whole conference is not that strong. I would give it a three deep rating. Bama and Florida are no joke though!

I'll agree with you on that, but at the very least, two of our 7-5 teams who combined for more conference losses this year (Georgia and South Carolina), both whipped the two ACC Championship Game participants (Georgia Tech and Clemson). The ACC won't live that one down for a while.

I do consider the Big 12 and PAC 10 to be about on par with the SEC team-wise, but of course, the SEC does get the lion's share of the top recruits in the nation due to their geographic location.

I agree with you on the PAC 10. I expected USC to go further than they did this year. In other news, TCU and BSU have teams that should be playing against tougher conferences. These are two teams with a good program that should be able to get more recruiting power after this year's season.

Yeah, I was thinking that TCU should join the Big 12, and the Big 12 should ship Iowa State off to the Big 10, who should also force Notre Dame to join to make the Big North 12, and Boise State should join the PAC 10 along with say, BYU or Utah, or Fresno State and call it the PAC 12. Then all the BCS conferences will have conference championship games, just to be fair to all.

I like that idea. Don't ever count out conferences though. The SEC has been really strong and the Big 10 down but in a few years the Big 10 could and probably will come back strong. It's all cyclical. A team like O. State.... I mean 95% of there players come from their own state. That's impressive but sometimes hurts them because outside recruits do look south. I would! :P I'm excited about the SEC Championship game and also excited about Oregon/O. State if the Ducks win as they should against state. The Buckeyes are hit or miss on O but there D is nasty. I actually think that and the SEC Championship are the best remaining games. If UC beats Pitt..... may the Lord go with them against Fl. or Bama because it is going to be a proper Southern ass kickin'!

This is for you and Billy...... Who do you think will be in the BCS game?

The odds are that Texas will be in. I can't honestly predict the winner between Florida and Alabama.

I do know that Nebraska's defense is every bit as good, or better, than Texas's. There's a possibility that the Big 12 championship game could be closer than people think. Of course, Nebraska's offense needs to show up and play mistake-free to have a chance.

Alabama and Florida is really a toss-up at this point. The betting line I think is 5.5 points, but I don't remember without checking for sure who is favored. I did notice on Fox Sports online that 52% of fan voting predicted Alabama would win.

Alabama is a better overall team now than they were last year. They have proven themselves to be a 4th quarter team, able to finish strong. Unfortunately, Florida is the same way.

Basically, whoever makes the fewest mistakes is going to win.

I do thank Billy for the detailed response and I agree about the Huskers. O wise they have to lay it out on the field which is something they haven't done this year in my opinion.

The spread is -5 on Florida.

I'm glad Oregon won last night, but I woulda been happier if they covered the 9.5 spread [:/] oh well, it's only $50.

I think Texas beats Nebraska. Neb. could win but just like Billy said their O is hit/miss. If they are on it will be a great game! I still lean towards Texas.

As for the SEC.... I'm going out on a limb and calling this a win for Bama. For some reason I feel like they want it more. This should be an epic game but that's my gut on it.

That's my biggest worry about this game..... After the FSU game the Gators were celebrating like the season was in the bag and put away.

I got the same feeling which is crazy because this game is the toughest of the season for both including the BCS game (whichever one goes).

I think it will all come down to who wants it more in a tough game and I just feel like its Bama.... of course my feeling is worth nothing. jmo
