kaerock 1 #1 June 7, 2005 I'm relining a canopy using 500lb Vectran. A couple of things I've heard to keep in mind are that the bartacks width should be 50% of the width of the line itself. And what thread is recommended for such an operation? E-sized Nylon 8.5lb? Recommendations on the length of the bartack down the line? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
masterrig 1 #2 June 7, 2005 Poynter's covers this topic. 'E' - thread is correct and 50% of the line width. This way, all the layers of line involved in the finger-trapped line will be stitched. 1" long bar-tack. Sounds like, you're on the right track. darkwing 5 #3 June 7, 2005 Really, E-thread? I use B. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
Hooknswoop 19 #4 June 7, 2005 Since it isn't load bearing, it probably doesn't matter. Derek
masterrigger1 2 #5 June 8, 2005 Use only "B" thread and a #16 needle. "E"thread is too thick for the smaller diameter line. It will prone to break in areas sewn with "E" thread. No more than 50% of the width. MELSkyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
masterrig 1 #6 June 8, 2005 I stand corrected on the use of E-thread with 500-lb. Vectran. Thanks all for the info. Chuck
kaerock 1 #7 June 8, 2005 Is there a different moniker for "B" sized thread? I don't see any listed on para-gear's site. -R QuoteUse only "B" thread and a #16 needle. masterrig 1 #8 June 8, 2005 The only listing I could find in para-gear was for OD green. I hate to sound stupid but, I never heard of B thread or #46 Nylon thread until now. That's the cool thing about DZ.com... you can always learn something! You might try contacting: Synthetic Thread Co. of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Chuck
kaerock 1 #9 June 15, 2005 Synthetic Threds is not a viable option, they don't sell retail and/or in small quantities. Would this fit the bill? http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=BNL46 -R QuoteThe only listing I could find in para-gear was for OD green. masterrig 1 #10 June 15, 2005 I've never dealt with those folks but, the description of their thread sounds good. I'll bet, it would work. As long as it meets the standards for parachute related thread. Maybe, someone on DZ.com might know a little better. Chuck
