alexey 6 #1 June 7, 2005 Some mnf (like PD) has such instructions on their line trim chart, so no... Is there any "standart" method how to measure that slack, or how big it has to be - copying measur. from old lineset is not the best way, i think... Sorry for bad English...Lexa
darkwing 5 #2 June 7, 2005 I think there is no standard. The details of stabilizer and suspension line geometry are very canopy dependent. When I built canopies I made sure that when I loaded the bottom skin in the early stages of "inflation" the stress at the line/stab junction was minimal. I did this on the table, and it required some finesse. I never had one rip off that I recall. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
riggerrob 643 #3 June 7, 2005 PD does list "stabilizer slack" on its trim charts. They measure from the top row of stitching (where the bottom skin is sewn to the loaded rib) to the bottom edge of the stabilizer. Frankly, I just measure that distance on the old lines before cutting them off. I figure that if the slider is not rubbing on that portion of line, there will be negliable change. The goal is to sew the outboard lines, so there is a little slack in the fabric. In other words, you want the suspension line to take the load. On old-school Strong tandem canopies, we used to leave 2 inches of slack at the B lines, 3" at the C lines and 4" at the D lines. Now better manufacturers (i.e. Strong and Atair) pre-mark the stabilizer position before shipping line kits. And Lexa is correct about every manufacturer using slightly different measuring methods. masterrigger1 2 #4 June 8, 2005 Invert the canopy on the floor. Use weights to anchor the nose and tail taught. With the stab lying flat, pull the line taught and measure up 1/2" from the edge of the stab and mark the line. about all PD canopies have 1/2" of slack in the stabs. alexey 6 #5 June 8, 2005 Thanks all. Esp. thanks to Martin and Hector from Icarus Europe... They send me line chart same day, and call to me in Ukraine - to clear the rest of my questions... They told, that do not put linechart on site because of fear misrigging... Thanks... Sorry for bad English..Lexa
