does any one have...

Recommended Posts

My son's laptop started acting acting funny (blue screens of death with error code indicating that drivers needed updating/memory had problems, etc) after he updated the version of Norton 360 he was running on it (yes, I know not a good idea, it will never happen again, much better choices out there). Used Ultimate Boot CD for Windows and ran a variety of tests - memory checks out fine, so does the drive and every other test I ran on it. The computer runs absolutely fine and forever when booted from that disk, I have let some tests literally run for days.

We got all the data off it, so going back to factory settings seem like a good idea, but he couldn't find the original restore CD. Tried a variety of things and decided to re-install Windows Home XP. Thing boots up fine until I load any of the drivers I download from the Acer site... then it keeps freezing.

My bet is that if he could find the original restore CD the world would be fine, but so far no luck finding it.

Acer site says it is no longer available from them.

Does anyone have a restore CD for an Acer Aspire 5610 model number BL50?

Thanks in advance, Ian

Thanks for the offer but I think I am OK now.

Found an old version of the Ethernet controller driver and the computer is happy with that. Taking it slow an only loading essential stuff.

So far no blue screens of death and I have turned off automatic restarts on error so if it does happen it will be obvious.

I am sure that Norton did this so I loaded Microsoft Security Essentials. Yes I know there are lots of choices that people will think are better...
