So Im shopping for a new RW suit...

Recommended Posts

I buy Tony Suits as I go to Z-hills regularly, that way I can get them to measure me and if it doesn't fit when I pick it up, they could change it there and then. In reality I've never had to have anything changed for not fitting properly, and I like the groovy alternative fabrics he's got like the bubbles etc.

The concern I always have with suits is how long it takes to get them in the first place, then that if something isn't quite right you end up having to wait again.

You know, I've owned 3 tonies now.

The 1st was a new suit, off the shelf, made for someone else, and it fit me like a glove (OK, a loose fitting cotton glove since it was a slower fall rate suit).

The 2nd, I did what you did, went to Tony in Zhills, got measured by them, and the suit was way big. Way way big. I had to shorten the bootied by about 2 inches for a proper fit. Its a big slow suit too, so it didnt need to be a perfect tight fit, but I was still quite dissapointed. My wife got measured at the same time, and her suit too is a little too big. NOt as bad as mine, but still.

The 3rd, I ordered from SQ1, and its a faster one, so much tigher, and as such, the tolerance for fit are smaller in my mind anyways. It fits perfectly.

So dont think that getting measured at the manufacturer necessarely makes a difference in the fit you will get.

YMMV

At the tunnel last w/end a coupla gals discussed suits. My team has Hotbods, and mine was the only one that fit. Shortly after getting it, one of my seems started tearing at a place in the suit that doesn't get wind or stretch. The lycra is fraying at all the stress points now. We have about 300 jumps on them, and 4 hours tunnel (lots of wind, but not lots of on-off stretching and pulling).

The Tony suits seem to hold up much better, and some jumpsuit repair folks swear they are better made. There was general feeling that the Bev booties were better.

Our collective discussion:
Looks, booty - Bev
Durability - Tony.

But guys like Booty!! :)

Never had a Bev...So I don't know.

I do know that for durability my Michigan beats every other suit I have jumped.

I have two Michigan suits. One has around 700 jumps and 30 hours of tunnel.

The other has a little under 400 jumps and 50 hours of tunnel.

I love my Michigan suits.

That's funny, the Tony suits I've seen were blowing apart after 200 jumps. There are a lot of BevSuits on my DZ and they're all holding up very well, basically the folks that had Tony suits hate them now so they all bought BevSuits and are waiting for those to blow up as well (they're a bit cynical now), but the suits are holding up well.

The "Tetris" does not exist yet. But it is a comp suit with all the additions you can think of and it has these knife edge booties that are awesome.

When we started jumping a Michigan suit there were a few things we thought could be improved. Mike worked with us on them till the suit is exactly what we wanted. So many people at our DZ started ordering the suits just like we had them. Instead of telling him all the things they wanted...We just said "Just like Ron/Steve's".

"Just like Ron/Steve's" is a really stupid name. So Mike came up with the name "Tetris".

He plans on making the suit only one way...Decked out with no options.

Some of the things are still in R&D. We are looking at a new bottom of the bootie...ect.

Some of the features have already been added to the standard comp suit (Filler of the grips ect).

To be honest I don't know what a new "Standard" suit is like...I have had custom R&D suits for the last three years, and most folks on out DZ have the same thing.

All I can say is that Mike builds a great suit that really stands up to the beatings. And his customer service is the best I have ever seen. Customer service is important to me.

For the record, I just BOUGHT two suits from him (I did get a deal, but I got offered the same deal from others)...I get nothing for talking his suits up. I just believe in them, and he is a good guy I am glad to do business with.

i ordered it a few weeks ago, and i checked in with him early this week and he told me it would be out the door by the end of the week. oh well, it has everything i'll need for several years with my experience and location. besides, if i upgraded any more my wife would probably have something to say about it.;)

He builds them fast.
They last.
Great customer service.

A Comp suit will work for 99% of the people.

If its your first suit with booties it would be better to get the regular ones.

If you come to FL I'll see if I can get a suit for you to borrow to see the difference.

i told him my jump numbers and stuff, so i'm sure he's building an appropriate suit. as far as coming to florida... might have to wait until next winter, but i'll look you up then. B| can't wait to see the suit, got it to match my new rig. should be stylin' in a month.

I totally agree with Ron.
We have tonysuits, bev suits, michigan suits.

the michigan has great construction and features. For example, the gripper design is really great, the hand fits into/around it rather than pulling fabric away from the arm or leg and creating drag....if that is hard to picture, seeing one in person will show you.

highly recommended.

I have 2 from Tony, one swoop and one of the std Tony RW suits. No fraying or torn seams or anything like it.

We have 5 Tetris coming in the next month for the team (All black, only front of grips will be our personal color). Very excited to see it - sounds TOUGH/BEEFY. My current suit is getting close being put up except for special occasions - the zipper keeps needing repairs. Mike's been great and super personable on top of it. I bet he has great stories.

My last worn out suit, my wife took the thighs, sewed up one end and put a drawstring on the other. They make great jumpsuit bags, etc bags, and the grippers are easier on the hands than handles.

and Im coming to you for your opinions...PLEASE....

So far Im leaning towards the Bev Suit, Hot Bod Suit.

What are your preferences and why? I dont want to spend more than 300.00 for it....

I've always bought Tony Suits.

Although, Bev Suits look to be well made too and for some reason look better on women folk... like they've got the design down to make a gal's butt look better in them... ;)
